Re: BG News hockey story
It is good to see that the hockey "issues" are still being kept in the news! It's important to keep it in the forefront, because if people think we have saved BG Hockey, they are sadly mistaken!! Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is certain until Jack Vivian's committee says it is!!newsguy wrote:http://www.bgviews.com/our-views/sports ... -1.1714836
BG HOCKEY FOREVER!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Interesting (and somewhat refreshing) to read what John Markell's hair had to say about things.
"I don't believe I can name a coach, anywhere, anytime, anyhow, who did it better than Doyt Perry."

Kudos to the BG News for a good articlce. I have to chuckle when I hear the excuse "bad economic times" ... my gosh, those problems were there and obvious during good times too! The ice arena problems show a terrible lack of university stewardship, and I say that as a tax payer as well as a hockey fan. From my view on the outside it just looks like one of those organizational bungles where Student Services wasn't talking to Athletics who wasn't talking to Buildings and Facilities ... no one to take charge, and no one wanted to open their budget purse strings because it was "the other guy's" problem. The committee needs to ferret all of this out so the real causes of the present situation aren't repeated. I can just see us getting over this hump, the University thumping it's chest saying "Look at the great thing we've done," and being right back in the same situation a decade or two from now. By then I'll be a really grumpy old man.
