Lastnights meeting about Hockey

I tried to make it down but the kids activities had to much overlap and it just did not work out.
How about some knowledge sharing? What was said?

FalconFanatic took awesome notes as she does at each of our meetings, so I'm sure she can fill you in if need be.

Basically, all that we've already read and heard. 2 phase campaign. The first 18 months are focused on raising 2mil for scholarships, mostly and 5mil total. That would be combined with the 4mil that the state/university are adding. Anyone giving money can decide if they want the money to go to the program or the arena or both. The individual donor can choose at what percentage. The donations can be over a multi-year period, which is nice in this economy and I know that personally, it REALLY upped the amount of money I'm donating...like 10 fold.

Marcia Latta gave some great stories about the fact that Dr. Cartwright and her have not had a single meeting since like June when the hockey situation didn't come up. She stated in no uncertain terms that Dr. Cartwright could've just said it's over, but she NEVER did. Also, all of the pledge stuff should be available in about 2 weeks!

Also, it is VERY important that EVERONE goes to the Alaska game on November 14. Not only is it alumni weekend and they will be doing something for the 69 team (It's about time!!) and the 84 team (ALSO about time!). Also, the president has invited the president's club to the game. They want to pack the arena and make EVERYONE want to come back. Get your tickets now! :)

GO FALCONS!!

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

This is probably the first time ever (at least since I arrived on campus in fall '04) that I have heard that they want to pack the arena. It really makes me happy to hear that the University wants everyone to be excited about Falcon Hockey.

Why would they not want all of the sporting venues packed for every game? Do they have to say show up for people to come? I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, but BG is in a much stronger position athletically is all of their sporting events are sell outs!

I am sure they do, however some things require coaxing.
it would be great if all 3 major sports were sellouts, the reality is Hockey has not been contending for the ccha and national championships for a long time, basketball even more so rare, and footballs big goal a MACC has only been flirted with recently and reality a MACC will pull students and some more local, the team would have to be spectacular to have a season sell out, ie competition for the electoral championship, and that is not the cards.
They need to lure fans to come to all the games, this year being a year for hockey, and that being the alumni day etc...I hope they do more to get folks in the seats, I hope more that the team can draw people by just being good.

Me too!! I think we're going to surprise a LOT of people, which will equal many more butts in the seats!!!
