sum1udontknow wrote:I also agree with Freddie.....2-10 is not amazing from the paper side of the stats, but obviously with seeing the games and watching this team progress, its a little different. I agree we should remove the interim tag, but we need not sign this guy to some huge 8 year contract. I like all other Falcon Hockey fans are much pleased with this team now compared to how things were after the U-18 team played us but we may be getting to excited too early. Let things run the course and in February if we continue to progress like this, then lets start talking about a contract. I believe if this team can reach 12-16 wins this year that would be a fantastic turnaround from what turmoil this program was in coming into the year. and trust me THIS TEAM CAN WIN 12-16 GAMES!!!! and possibly more.
February is too late to make a coaching decision. We still need commitments from more players to field a team next year. A decision on Williams needs to be made by January 1st. If it's decided to proceed with a national search, end of January the coach needs to be announced/signed.

So much going on here, I felt the need to respond...

Freddie...some people won't notice a Joke if it comes with a billboard labeling it as such! That was good stuff by the way!

I am squarely behind Coach Willy at this point. He wasn't one of my favorite players, but he certainly seems (yes, IT IS STILL EARLY) to have what it takes to coach a winning team. He changes things that are not working (calling the time out in the first period against Michigan - as if to say..."look guys, we have a special night with fans that typically don't get to see us, now quit embarrassing yourselves"), actually talks with players during the game, and he's used at least 4 different power plays so far this year (even if one of those was the one we got to watch the previous 7 years)!! However, signing him to a lengthy contract at this point would not be wise. Give him a few extra dollars, and maybe guarantee next year as you remove the interim tag....I'd take that! And if you do it, do it now, or just after the holidays as the students come back.

Lastly, have the 2 notorious lurkers been named and I missed it?

thanks
Likewise, I have to apologize for the vitriol of my post. First of all, I have lately for some reason taken to posting late at night, which is never a good idea. And secondly, reading your post and subsequently the thread you linked, I started to envision a seemingly incomprehensible repeat of the confounding "kill the coach!" theme that we have experienced over the past couple of years...admittedly your username probably enhanced my reaction somewhat.

Either way, I'm sorry for it, and I think we can all safely agree that we have a potentially great coach on our hands. And after reading FCF's post, I think I may have been a bit to enthusiastic in my assertion that Williams be signed long-term. I really like the idea of taking the 'interim' tag off of his title and guaranteeing him 1-2 more years at this point. That gives Coach W a great deal of credibility in recruiting, and at the same time saves the program itself any undue obligation if his tenure starts to bomb a week later. Objectively, less than a half of a season is short stuff on which to base a multi-year contract, and I think even Williams would agree with that.

I'd like to see the interim tag pulled and a 3 year contract. It's a lot easier to get a kid to commit when the coach is guaranteed to be there for 3 years as opposed to 1-2.

What are you missing? Where should I start?...

You don't follow hockey.
You don't like hockey.
You supported Obama for "CHANGE"

In short, you're missing the capacity for abstract thought.
Please go back to the bouncyball thread. :axe:
Freddie, if you want to bash somebody for not liking a sport, or for not knowing anything about a sport, that's fine. In some sense that's what this message board is for. But for the love of god, leave the politics out of it. Last I checked, conservative or liberal ideology has nothing to do with the ability to make a coherent thought. What the hell does love or hatred of Barack Obama have to do with Dennis Williams or Bowling Green hockey in general?

We practically have a whole forum dedicated to our governmental screwups and how we love/hate Obama/Pelosi/Reid/Limbaugh/Hannity/the liberal news media etc etc. Go take that sh*t over there.

Oh yeah, GO BG. Beat Lake State.

Be careful what you ask for...I just read thru all the posts on the topic you linked, and have come to the conclusion that you're full of crap. The ones bashing Willy were 'freddiethefalconBG' and 'bgsufalcon24'...and we all know who/what they are. I'd suggest you do a bit of research before posting such nonsense.

For the record, I'm extremely happy with the progress we've seen at this point...despite the record. As much as I'm encouraged by the direction, and as much as I like Coach Williams...I think we need to be practical. How about just removing the 'interim' label for now.

This probably is not what I should expect from hockey fans but it certainly what I will remember.

You come in here and say you don't follow and don't like hockey and expect to be received with open arms? Your question would likely have been answered civilly had you not qualified your dislike of the sport first. Hockey fans are no different than any other sports fan....they'll defend the sport that they enjoy watching. I don't particularly care for basketball but I don't go into that forum spewing my dislike for the game. I read it, find out what's going on, and I leave which is exactly what you could and should have done here.

So saying that I dont like or follow hockey is wrong? Thats interesting? I am not sure saying that I dont like something is really that negative of a thing.

Dear 'Globetrotter'

You start off your very first visit on the hockey board by admitting that you neither like nor follow hockey, then retreat behind a wall of righteous indignation when I poke a little fun at your 'ignorance'.

Lighten up and learn. In fact I invite you to be my guest at Friday's game. Just PM me your name and I'll leave tix for the two seats right next to mine at will call for you and a friend.

I have been to a handful of games when I was in school. Always fun.

Oh he got his change, and Obama wants every last penny.

A big part of me says yes to the williams deal. Meaning I feel a 3 year deal ( to match the current garunteed length of the program [pending more donation news to come] is very reasonable and provides us with several things. Stability, a key for the players and recruiting. A good coach. He is clearly that from what we have seen to this point. That is where I think some pause is needed. There is no need to rush, and I think we wait until the seasons mid point, I dont see us being anywhere unexpected but there is no need to get this done before the Christmas.
I think he will be the guy, and think the staff will be with him.

I guess the most immediate concern is, when does recruiting 'season' begin? I have never been able to keep track of when and how recruiting works for every different sport. In this case, I would like to see Williams signed to...something...in time to maximize recruiting effectiveness. If I were the AD, that would be what I was looking at. But, we can all thank the good Lord above that I am not the AD. :-D

According to the latest Ask the AD there is absolutely no chance that the interim tag will be pulled until after the season.

I never quantified my contract request. 8 Years is silly and shouldn't even be heeded.
One year is insulting but three year is perfect. The lad has won at previous HC junkets, why not give him a shot? He's beginning to turn this barge around and that will take some time.

This just reaffirms my opinion of the AD.
