I'm curious as to what teams are in financial trouble. Not saying you're not right, I just wonder where the problems lie.

Big Ten (usually 11, now 12, maybe 14 soon, but only 6 in hockey with 2 maybe to come) Hockey
Does it really make sense to the hockey people on here that they pull out of 2 established conferences where 4 or 5 of current 6 can make the tournament on a regular basis and may take a chance that only 2 or 3 may make it coming out of a single conference? At the same time they all have current rivals in those conferences. I see the marketing advantage for television but currently the BiG10 Network can work two regions and involve additional markets.

But Falcon Turf your missing the point as was clearly stated at the unvailing of penn states plan...they want to do what is both best for college hockey and the big ten. We all know the big ten is best for every thing, so of course they will pull out and likely manage a way to secure two auto bids to the NCAA's-
while working hard to maintain those rivalry games with none Bigten members.
Rood- Western and Ferris are both in a bad way, its common knowledge and came to the fore front when BGSU announced the then would be end of our program.
They are working one and toward attempting an endowment plan, but both are struggling with it, my hope is that works out for them, as we are still working hard to cement ours.

Just out of curiosity, what are some other schools that have seriously looked into moving into Division I Hockey? I know it's an expensive sport to put on but I have always somewhat expected it to expand more, geographically, by now. There are great club teams in Virginia and the Carolinas and I'm sure the Northwest has some very talented hockey players as well.
