I would be happy to go back to having ties again. Sure it's not sexy, but it provides a more accurate representation of the game to end in a draw and have each team get one point. Right now, winning a shootout can advance you in the conference standings over your opponent. Shootouts are NOT HOCKEY! Sudden death until we get a winner should be played for tournaments and championships, but I don't think we need to have a clear winner in the regular season.

I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out how a shootout goal could possibly be disallowed because the net is dislodged. In that situation I cant see anyway for the net to come off UNLESS the goalie knocked it off...if that's gonna nullify any score, why shouldnt every goalie just kick the net off. I'd sure like to see the film on this (Solways shootout attempt from Friday's game.)

PS, I hate shootouts as a means to determine 'winner'. Would rather see sudden death lengthened to 10 minutes, then call it a draw. 2pts for win, 1 each for tie, zip for loser...but I know I'm old-fashioned.

Well, looking at this last series, I am encouraged. We out played the Lakers both nights and just needed to score a couple more goals for two wins. Or two less goals allowed. Of course that would have been two shutouts. Either way the team played well this weekend. Last year I felt like LSSU really took it to us physically. This year I thought we did not get pushed around. Although two points helps us a little it is still very disappointing not to have all six points from this weekend.

Spectator - I agree 100% that the team is improving and looking much better as the season progresses. However, as Bill Parcell's once said, "you are what your record says you are". That being said we are still looking at last in the CCHA, though goaltending is improved and defense is greatly improved we still lack a serious scoring threat and a legit SCORING line. I would describe our leading scoring in basketball terms as a great spot up 3-point shooter, JST has tremendous hands and abilty to score but lacks the ability to create for himself or score in crowds. Leave him unatteded in the offensive zone and he can be leathal.

The schedule is favorable but we are probably still looking at an opening series in the playoffs on the road. I'd greatly like to see a home series in coaches first year but that might be alot to ask, though a couple weekend sweeps would put us in position to possibly host a first-round series.

Well we are now ranked in front of OSU and just behind MSU in the KRACH rankings. We are up several spots from last week. You are also very correct that we need to find the back of the net. I think we just need to crash the net a little harder.

Just a quick note while the presser is uploading (will be posted Wednesday):
- Coach said Friday's Solway no-goal in the shootout was a good call. The goalie made the stop then the net came off it's moorings.

Shootouts are more for the fans than the teams.

Coach's remarks make sense to me...if that's the way it happened, good call. As to your second point, I'd also LIKE to agree with that, but when the league awards points in the standings based on the results, it becomes unfair to the team. When I become Emperor of the World, shootouts will be banned.

Any estimates on when that will happen?

The end of the Mayan calendar...Dec 21 2012. The way I figure it, all hell will break loose about then when liberals riot after Obama fails to win re-election. There will be a horiffic power vaccum, and I'm IN! The only thing that could go wrong with this plan would be if Charlie Manson gets paroled between now and then. :axe:
