I found this on USCHO.com:
"Davy D: While I've never been there, NMUkat82 has pretty descriptively explained just what a *hole Ames is. I'll take her word for it, and agree with BigBlue on this. If I want to see NMU play league games at a *hole rink, I'll drive the five and a half hours to Bowling Green. I don't need to go five and a half hours to Ames."
I'd rather go to a game in our *hole rink, which has more history and atmosphere than Northern could ever dream of. When you walk into the Ice Arena, the history should hit you like a hammer. Just think about all the great players who have skated there. I love the Ice Arena. Sure it doesn't have cushy seats and skyboxes, but it does have "atmosphere". You can't buy that or build it. You have to earn it.

To go off topic for a second, the person mentioned Ames, I am assuming they are talking about Ames, Iowa. Have there been more rumors out there about Iowa State starting a DI Hockey program?

Iowa State, Iowa, Illinois, Syracuse, Navy, Buffalo....basically every school has been rumored to be "looking" at starting a division 1 team. I honestly don't look for another team to start within 5, maybe 10 years. If I'm not mistaken, the first rumors about Penn State going D1 were in the 70's.BGFalconfromCincy wrote:To go off topic for a second, the person mentioned Ames, I am assuming they are talking about Ames, Iowa. Re: What a D-Bag!
Our arena may not be the top 10 in the NCAA, but its better or just as good as many in our newly formed WCHA, I would argue that its actually a bit better. I would like to see some additional basic improvements, like the scoreboards (please God), but the sound system and the display of the history of the program is a huge...huge...start. I am not going to attack any of these smaller schools, but lets face it we would have a bigger draw with MAC opponents or D1 schools like ourselves and/or larger.
The guy who made that original comment about BG obviously knows nothing about hockey or the college arenas around the NCAA. Hopefully someone is commenting against him on that other board.
Go Falcon Hockey!!! (man, it feels good to say that again, hockey season needs to get here fast)

Sounds like that NMU fan is upset that our team has defeated his the last two years in the playoffs.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.

I found the post. It was too far back to make it worth while to challenge it. He may not have been to the ice arena recently to see the improvements. For a while it was looking pretty bad, and, IMO, it still does in certain areas (like the tiling at the base of the outside walls that is non-existant in spots). It will continue to improve as the hockey team improves.

The ice is back in.
They are painting the hallways; from floors to the top of underside of the stands.
Looks good.
