I never missed a game from 72-76 and don't recall there being much in the way of organized cheers. It was more about making noise generally to rally the team.
I like the things that have developed over the years (band, cheering section) and hope they rev back up as the program tries to reinvigorate itself.
Funny thing, though, despite not having much in the way of organized student sections, most of the games back then were sold out. Hockey tickets even then were hard to get, and that was when you had to actually pay for tickets separately for all sports.
