hockey memorabilia

Post by TG1996 »

Does anyone know if they ever put the DVD of the '84 championship game they gave out at the anniversary banquet last year out for public sale?

Also, does anyone know where I might be able to find an 8x10 of the on-ice celebration after the GW goal in that game? The pic I'm thinking of is the one in the stairwell of the athletic offices at the Stadium, where the players are flooding onto the ice with sticks and gloves flying in the air...

No, the DVD's weren't sold publicly and I doubt if they ever will be as only a very limited number were produced. The DVD's also "weren't given out," table sponsors had to fork over big bucks to get one (along with a package that included a framed jersey). Regarding the picture in question, I have no idea, but check with the marketing department, they may have a copy of it. I remember exactly which one you are describing. It was a classic!!!

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Ah. That's crappy. I knew there was a decent price tag to get a seat at the event ($75 or $100, right?), but I didn't know the DVD's were just for the sponsors that dropped even more. Unless there was some rights issues with a mass release, I would think this could be a substantial sale for the athletic department. Once they're produced once, DVD's can be burned off pretty easily and professionally, and I'd think they'd sell pretty well even with a $30 or so price tag on them. With all the bowl wins and hoops tourney appearances way back when, that game is not only a defining moment of our athletic program, but also one of the classic title games in NCAA history.

The picture is really sweet and seems like it might be easier to come across. A nice 8x10 of that in an orange frame would be awesome! (and again, a big seller for the ath. dept. I would think.)

Thanks for your help, FF!! :D

I think there was an issue with the rights and the NCAA and that is why they couldn't sell them. Technically, they were given away as part of the table sponsor packages ($1000) and higher levels. Only 500 were allowed to be produced, if I remember right. I also mentioned to several well connected people about selling them and raising a ton of money for the program and was told they couldn't do it. Which of course makes me wonder when I see DVD's of OSU's national championship game...

I also think the idea of selling that picture would be fantastic too!!!

Remember these are two very distinct games - one is an NCAA sanctioned game, the other is not sanctioned by the NCAA but by six conferences that want to make all of the money they can.

Does anyone have a 1984 Key? Are there any good championship game pictures in it? If so, the Key Office probably still has negatives we could use to get some pics made.

Of course, I'm wondering of McMetz could check the BG News archives.

Once again, the crappyness that is the BCS rears its ugly head. I can't believe that after 21 years the NCAA would still be guarding its rights to that game so heavily, especially if a member institution that was involved in the game made a request for it.

I guess if the Falcon Fanatic can't even snag a copy, no one can! *laugh* I wonder if ESPN Classic takes requests??? Hmmm....

Forget the ESPN route. I wanted a tape of Gameday since Mrs Class of 86 flubbed the VCR duties. My son was focused upon at the start of the show in the crowd with a sign saying "Look Mom I'm on ESPN Gameday" ....and they basically told me that they we're too busy to bother with the common man.

That's crappy... But I was thinking more of the "hey, its college hockey season, there's this great game in 1984 you could show on ESPN Classic". But you're right, they'd probably laugh and show another repeat of "Duke's Greatest Timeouts" five times in the same night.

I never said I didn't have a copy. 8) I do, as a matter of fact. We sprang for the BIG BUCK$ (took a LOT of convincing on my part to get BGFan to go along with this!!) and sponsored a table for the event. It was worth every cent and more. We had great seats and I wouldn't have missed that evening for the world. It was truly a one of a kind event!!!!
