Alabama Huntsville joins the WCHA?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Alabama Huntsville joins the WCHA?
It's a good thing. Good school, nice hockey venue at the Von Braun Center, as easy for BG to travel to as almost anywhere else in the WCHA. Nice change of pace during the season to visit a milder climate. Also it honors the legacy of Doug Ross, BG '75, who was the first hockey coach at UAH, and coached there for 25 years. The hockey team supporters at Huntsville deserve this.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

......and also Jim Harris who was a BG grad and their AD before his death a couple years ago.

If it keeps UAH from disappearing from college hockey it's a good thing. The trip to Alabama is about the same as the trip to Marquette, just less chance of a blizzard.

And former Falcon assistant coach (2006-2007), Danton Cole was their head coach (2007-2010) with Dennis Williams as his assistant his first year there. A lot of Falcon connections down there!!factman wrote:bgbill wrote:It's a good thing. And I love their "splash" page when you go to their home page!

Congrats, Chargers!! Glad you finally found a home!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Considering they were the only D-1 program that was independent, its a great thing. They'll get guaranteed conference home games, and now be able to recruit better after getting some stability. They only had a handful of home games this year since no one wanted to travel there to play.Flipper wrote:Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.
Re: Alabama Huntsville joins the WCHA?
After it was announced they were dropping their program for this year, opponents scrambled to schedule new games. Private donors stepped up and saved the program for the next few years. Alabama ended up filling their schedule with a lot of games against D3 schools and club programs.jpfalcon09 wrote:Considering they were the only D-1 program that was independent, its a great thing. I'm glad you're all happy about this...if nothing else, having a team in the South will make the WCHA unique in the D1 landscape

If nothing else I'm happy to have a hockey game that is close to me. As mentioned above they do play in a really nice arena and a good fan base.
