Langley, BC - The Langley Rivermen are pleased to announce Jakob Reichert has committed to play for Bowling Green State University starting this fall.
The 20-year old Langley native becomes the tenth player on the Rivermen roster to secure an NCAA Division I scholarship.
“It’s been a long time coming, I’ve played a lot in this league, and it’s exciting to finally have it done,” said Reichert.
“I had a lot of other opportunities too, but it’s a good fit and I’m really excited.”
Starting his Junior A career with the Merritt Centennials in 2010-11, Reichert was traded to his hometown Rivermen after two seasons and currently sits third on the team in goals and points. So far this season the 6’5”, 220 pound forward has 19 goals and 19 assists in 49 games, far exceeding his previous BCHL career best year in 2012-13.
“This is something that he’s worked extremely hard for and we couldn’t be happier for him,” said Rivermen Head Coach and General Manager, Bobby Henderson.
“He’s just a great kid all around, he loves the game, you see the passion in his work ethic, he’s gone above and beyond here in the last couple years and preparing himself for this, he kept focus and it paid off for him.”
In 191 games, the Langley Minor Hockey Association product has 49 goals, 62 assists, and 320 penalty minutes. Reichert will join teammate and Rivermen captain Mitch McLain at Bowling Green next season.
