Marcus Perrier is leaving the Bowling Green Falcon hockey program, the senior defenseman announced Wednesday on Twitter.
The undrafted free agent is expected to sign a pro contract in the American Hockey League or the East Coast Hockey League.
"I would like to thank all of the coaches, staff, and players at @BGSU_Hockey. I have had a great experience at BG over these last 3 years,” Perrier wrote on Twitter. “My teammates have become family to me and I will miss them as I begin my next step in my career."
Perrier played well as a freshman, but has struggled the last two seasons. He was even a healthy scratch last season.
“We wish Marcus the best as he starts the next chapter of his life,” BG coach Chris Bergeron said. “We appreciate his efforts during the last three years.”
Perrier’s playing time this season was in question as BG’s defense corps is being revamped into a more mobile and a more offensive group.
The 6-foot-225-pounder, who played a physical style, had five goals and 20 assists in 117 career games. He also had 56 penalties for 145 minutes, and an on-ice rating of plus-2.
Perrier’s departure leaves the Falcons with nine defensemen.
The group includes seniors Rusty Hafner, Connor Kucera and Mike Sullivan.
Rounding out the defense are juniors Jose Delgadillo, Ralfs Freibergs and Dajon Mingo; sophomore Sean Walker; and freshmen Mark Friedman and Nolan Valleau.

Good Luck, Marcus! I wish you success in your hockey future!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

North Charleston, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 22 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry, have agreed to terms with defenseman Marcus Perrier, Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today.

Perrier, 23, joins the Stingrays after skating three seasons with Bowling Green State University totaling 25 points (five goals, 20 assists) in 117 games.

“He’s a big physical defenseman and had a good career at Bowling Green,” said Carbery. “This will be a good place to start. We are looking forward to him getting down here and starting his pro career.”

Before joining the college ranks, the Thunder Bay, Ontario, native dressed three seasons of junior hockey with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League (USHL) adding 33 points (13 goals, 20 assists) in 160 games and served as team captain during the 2010-11 season.

“I’m very excited to start my journey and start in South Carolina,” mentioned Perrier. “I’ve talked to a few people and tried to get a feel for what the league and South Carolina is like and I’ve only heard good things. In camp, I’m going to come in as best as I can and prove myself as a rookie and develop myself as a good defenseman.”
