I know this weekend was discouraging, but we were one or two defensive break downs from winning both of those games
Total Agree ! To many of you have knee jerk reaction to everything not just Falcon Hockey but sadly its how society is on everything. They played great at times and have had some "bonehead" moments or series at times. If we rattle off four wins to end the season and win the league tournament and get a #3 seed in the NCAA tournament and then get to Boston in the Frozen Four what's everyone saying then. Let's let this play out and see what happens and support the team. There are highs and there are lows, its called sports people.

18 - 9 - 5 is the Falcons record. They are 0 - 2 - 5 in overtime. Lets say all those are Ws, 25 - 7 sounds real good and probably a top 4 team in the country, flip that and they are all Ls, 18 - 14, fairly average and this is where some people might start to question Bergeron's coaching, the players he brings in, and even the state of the program. A pipe hit, a screened player on PP, a bad penalty, skaters loses an edge, in a five minute overtime every single one of those items has happened this year to the Falcons. Call it bad luck or whatever but flip that "bad luck" and Not one person is complaining on here and we are all talking about Contract Extensions and Coach of the Year awards and the "Glory has been brought back". Last couple of weeks have been frustrating but 5 - 6 years we were just looking for a good "effort" on a Friday or Saturday night. League race has really been down to two teams for 5 -6 weeks, everything else BG hopes to accomplish is still out there to get. So let's show up to games and cheer them on to the First NCAA appearance since 1990.

GO BG.

I'm certainly not giving up on them. I still believe they can and will make a deep WCHA run and make it to the NCAA tournament. Just observations from the past few weeks that the team looks a little weary which is to be expected when you play nearly three months without a break.

A few observations,

Seemed like Desalvo was really competing hard this weekend. There's a guy who wants to go out on top.

Seems like the goalie seesaw might have backfired somewhat. Burke has a good night vs ferris and sits the next night. Nell seems to have a case of the freshman yips.

I also have to ask, with the rotation we've seen of defensemen, does Mingo bring something I'm not seeing? I know he's still in his first season at the spot but his breakdowns in our end have hurt pretty bad during this slump. Other than Walker and Friedman everyone else is in out of the lineup (kucera missed a few with the flu), not sure why he is immune to sitting for a night based on what I see on the ice.

The compete level was high from a few of the forwards this weekend. Unfortunately, that is not good enough. The best line may have been Mercier, Pohlkamp and McLain.

As far as defense is concerned, it seems like we have not figured out the best way to balance our aggressiveness to the offensive side. We make some risky decision which weren't costing us as much earlier in the year. But we are paying now. Gotta find the balance.
