Matthew Ferrari departs

Post by bgbill »

For reason not yet publicized, Matt Ferrari, freshman D from Toronto, has left the BGSU hockey team. I hope it works out for him, but I sure would have liked to watch his progress as a Falcon player and student.
All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

Berge cites homesickness which is understandable for an 18-year old, shame he didn't stick around and at least give it more time for it to go away. Hopefully this won't impact the defense too much.

A: one of the risks of bringing in young guys. No way id argue the risks outweighed the possible reward for this kid, but still one of the possibilities. One positive to getting older guys, and from the USHL, is they've almost all lived away from home while in juniors and are prepared for a college athlete lifestyle. Looking at Ferraris career in Canada it looks like he probably never was billited.

B: if the problem was that bad for him, he probably wasn't a great fit for BG, the culture theyve established, and the other guys. Terrible time for the program for a dman to bail, but I have to wonder about well things would have gone for him had he stayed.

C: time to start praying our d corps stays healthy.

SWEEP THE BUCKS!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
