Game ends up a 2-2 tie. 2 points on the weekend for each team, which leaves us tied for second place in the league with Michigan Tech (with two games in hand).
Mavs looked tired for the last two periods, and the Falcons certainly played better than yesterday. Too many penalties on both sides, though. Refs didn't have much control of this game.

Re: Mankato
Whoever is keeping track of stats, can you please add a count for each time the ref gets hit by the puck or a player? Call it ZDM (zebra didn't move) on the score sheet or something like that. Thanks.
Re: Mankato
I made the comment last night that if BG ever bolts for another conference, it'll be because the WCHA can't put a quality officiating crew on the ice.Critical Thinker wrote:Whoever is keeping track of stats, can you please add a count for each time the ref gets hit by the puck or a player? Overall it was a good weekend....didn't deserve the tie on Friday but found a way.
Played decent last night....effort was good, just amazing at the lack of offensive skill on the ice for both teams. Not many guys who can really finish a play in the WCHA.

Re: Mankato
You have got to be kidding, Minnesota State has quality players like Bryce Gervais who was second in goals scored last year. He was stonewalled friday night on many breakaways , yes from cherry picking, but he has good speed and Nell just would not let him get one by him. I think Gervais was discouraged on saturday and took some penalties because he could not break out. They cut down on allowing breakouts for the mavs all night saturday. This weekend we saw the best 2 teams in the WCHA fight it out and even with the crappy refs it was exciting to watch. Gervais will end up in the NHL and i give him credit for being a goal scorer who has a chippy side unlike most pansy goal scorers like T J Tynan was for Notre Dame. Nell is also one of the top goalies in the nation.
Re: Mankato
Didn't say it wasn't exciting, just that there aren't many true goal scorers in the WCHA...the national stats agree by the way
Re: Mankato
That may be true but then our league could be like the little ten where there is no goaltending. You need score 6 to win. So does the little ten have goal scorers or nobody in net, We beat them twice.
Re: Mankato
Come on.....OSU is 3-11....that is going to be your argument?
Re: Mankato
no my argument is the little ten numbers are more scoring because they have no goaltending. You don't think i know that a lot of our wins are against a lot of teams that are 50 or below in the pairwise including the worthless nuts. But they want to keep playing us even though they hurt our pairwise with their crappy team. The little ten does not have a good record outside their league. Only 2 teams with winning records. But look at all the scoring in the little ten opening weekend. Looks to me like their scorers would be exaggerated. Now the nacho league they are the premier league. Even the mavs had their butt handed to them in non league action against them.

Re: Mankato
what makes this year's schedule hard isn't who we play, but playing 38 games--no bye weeks after Xmas. we've already been to Anchorage and Tech, and we've still got long trips to Bemidji, Mankato, and Fairbanks. that doesn't show up in SOS, but still a grind.apollo wrote:Tonight's a big game...not too many good teams on BG's schedule this year. Need to win to help those computer points. We're the highest ranked WCHA team in Pairwise and RPI Mankato and Tech are just behind us.
Currently 19th in Pairwise, 20th in RPI, and 49th out of 60 is SOS (which is so weird because everyone keeps saying how tough our schedule is, apparently not)
our SOS rank moved up 5 to 44 after Saturday's game. obviously still low, but it's still early enough to change. not gonna worry about PWR for another month at least. we've still got games with Western, Clarkson, Miami, Tech, Mankato... it would help for them to get hot before we take them down.
