Bye Week

Post by Critical Thinker »

Happy bye week, everyone. Here's who to watch around the country for an unlikely but possible (with lots of help) at-large bid. Wishful thinking? Probably, but what else are we supposed to do this weekend? All rankings are PWR as of Friday before puckdrop.

Teams to Watch:

13 Northeastern vs 37 UCONN
14 Western Michigan (Bye)
15 Penn St. (Bye)
16 Michigan @ 34 Michigan St.
17 Boston U vs 41t UMass
18 Wisconsin vs 9t Minnesota
19 Bowling Green (Bye)
20 Northern Michigan vs 49 Alaska Fairbanks
21 Maine @ 11t Providence
22 Boston College vs 23 UMass Lowell
26 Miami vs 1t SCSU

Other WCHA

5 Minnesota St. @ 51 Alabama Huntsville
28 Bemidji St. @ 30 Michigan Tech
50 Ferris St. (Bye)
57 Lake Superior @ 60 Alaska Anchorage

Every scenario I have run even if BG were to win out its 4 remaining regular season games and win all tournament games and get to the finals and lose the finals BG still will not get ahead of 16. That's with teams ahead of them losing. USCHO kind of confirmed that 2 weeks ago saying BG could run the table and lose in the finals and sneak in with 1 loss, and that being in the finals. BG lost its only at large chance Saturday losing to Tech. Yes BG can finish #16, but Canisus and Holy Cross pairwise is in the 30s and they will get in being conference champ, meaning BG would have to get to #15 and with us playing 2 of the worst teams next 2 weeks even with a win our pairwise ranking will not climb.

Just take care of business and the finish #3 in league and then win the WCHA.

Bemidji beat Tech, 4-2. Bemidji can pretty much lock up home ice with another win tomorrow.

As of now, it looks like the WCHA playoff matchups will be:

#8 Ferris State @ #1 Minnesota State
#7 Huntsville @ #2 Northern Michigan
#6 Fairbanks @ #3 Bowling Green
#5 Michigan Tech @ #4 Bemidji State
BGSU '20

So close to getting help. Minnesota State tied Alabama Huntsville with 2 minutes to go then won in overtime. Northern Michigan tied Alaska also late in the third and also won in OT. Damn, almost a great night.

We moved up a spot for doing nothing! Lots of good results OOC, not too many bad.

UCONN def. Northeastern
Michigan tied Michigan St.
Boston U tied UMass
Minnesota def. Wisconsin
Providence def. Maine
Boston College def. UMass Lowell
St. Cloud def. Miami

Looks like we're locked up in 3rd for WCHA.

I may be the last fan who cares, but here's tonight's relevant games.

13 North Dakota vs 21 Colorado College
14 Northeastern (Bye)
15 Penn St. (Bye)
16 Michigan @35t Michigan St.
17 Northern Michigan vs 51 Alaska Fairbanks
18 Bowling Green (Bye)
19 Boston University (Bye)
20 Wisconsin vs 9t Minnesota

Lots of teams off tonight, pretty low chance we move down. If Northern Michigan or Michigan lose, we would move up. If you can stomach it, root for NoDak tonight- Colorado College can leapfrog us with a win.

Bemidji State lost tonight. What does this mean? BG now is 6 pts, so 2 wins from securing the #3 seed.

BG is 7 points up on Bemidji State with each team having 4 games to play. BG needs 5 points to clinch third as they hold the tie breaker over Bemidji. We are at 49 points and the best Bemidji can get is 54. Bemidji also finishes the season with two games at Minnesota State.
