Problems down at Miami U

Post by gmartin »

If this has already been mentioned just disregard.

Looks like there are several issues brewing down at Miami. Rico was told he had to fire all his assistant coaches. He also had to dismiss for players off the team. It was probably like you either fire these assistants or you are fired. I believe he has two years left on his contract.

Well 5 more years. They certainly have struggled the last several years. Telling you need to fire all the assistants and kick 4 players off. Losing a recruit. A couple players left early by signing contracts. May be another rough year or two yet to come. Wonder if they or WMU regret going to their new conference. Maybe both Alaska teams will drop D1 hockey and WMU and Miami can join the WCHA. Getting rid of Alaska and adding there 2 teams would increase our schedule and make a stronger conference.

The Miami State and Western Michigan message boards are nearly identical in this regard. The common themes are:
o Fire the coach vs. keep the coach but get better recruits (gee, if it's that easy what's Berge's excuse for not landing Eichel?)
o The NCHC is killing us, was a huge mistake, and we should be in the WCHA vs. the NCHC is the best thing that's ever happened to us

Even though I personally believe that WMU and Miami are dirty teams. They play dirty. They are also very cocky. I would in a heartbeat, 100%, replace both Alaska schools with WMU and Miami. Better on the budget. They would actually be our closest League competitors. Less Than 3 hours away. Our closest League team we have now is Ferris State.
