It was announced today that the CCHA regular season champion will be awarded the MacNaughton Cup.
Lame. Any association with the WCHA should be eliminated. It was a stop gap for a lot of these programs who got screwed over by realignment. Hopefully the Mason Cup is awarded to the playoff winner.
I'm OK with the MacNaughton Cup. We already won it when Tech was in the CCHA back in the 80's. Besides, it's far and away the coolest trophy in college hockey.
Hope mbeneke's inside info on the Mason Cup is correct!

The McNaughton Cup follows Tech. Was probably a condition of Tech joining.

Dan Bylsma parted ways with the Red Wings. Blue Jackets have an open head coaching position. Coincidence?
Little bit. Detroit needed to move on. Their power play was dreadful with him at the helm. Some of it is talent related, but their overall setup and issues with zone entries were enough to warrant it.
Dan wants to be a head coach so I'm sure he'll interview for the Columbus job.
I am not a fan of the schedule. 12 home league games and 14 road league games. Why the imbalance? Why then play on 2 home nonconference games when we are already shortchanged home league games? I don't get it at all.

The league schedule is 13 pairs of games. The distance between schools doesn’t allow for home-and-home matchups for each program, so there had to be an imbalance on series numbers.
The teams with 12 home league games this year will have 14 next year.

I am very aware of that. It doesn't mean that I have to like it or support it, especially with only 2 home non conference games

A room full of "smart" people couldn't figure out how to make a balanced home/away schedule with one geographical outlier (Bemidji). Not a good start. They need smarter "smart" people.
