CCHA Media Day

Post by pdt1081 »

The all virtual CCHA Media Day was yesterday. Much of the focus seemed to be on the marketing aspect of the league. Graphics, TV production, etc. Each arena is supposed to have 8 cameras (including blueline), ice mics, and referee mics. All are supposed to be available for broadcasts, and the mics are supposed to be accessible by radio broadcasts.

With all the cameras, video review is supposed to be the best system in college hockey, almost to the level of the NHL. When a major is called, Langseth is supposed to get an alert on his phone to immediately review it, from wherever he is. The purpose of that seems to have escaped me as he's not involved in the on-ice call.

Officials camp was held at the B1G offices in Chicago. The camp itself was talked about, and it seemed like the mentioning of where it was held might have been a slip up. I know in the past, Lucia had said pooling officials with the B1G would be something they were interested in, but that wasn't mentioned at all, and wasn't asked as a question either.

Eigner's time was nothing new. Bunch of guys left, bunch of new guys came in. The little bit he touched on that, it almost sounded like the portal craziness caught BG a little off guard.

The Pucks in Deep podcast interviewed Johnson who made it clear he decided to enter the portal on his own. It doesn't seem like there is a crisis in the program that drove everyone away, but it wouldn't surprise me to hear that a bunch of guys assessed the situation and collectively decided to move on and a bunch of guys looked around at what was left and decided "not for me."

Ty mentioned the way they (coaches) approached the conversations with the players, and the timing of those conversations, could have been better handled. I almost wonder if the coaching staff's philosophy was "we'll talk about next season when this one is over," and players had already been "advised" of what could happen.
