@/vs. Michigan State (10/7 & 10/8)
Big weekend as the Falcons travel to East Lansing to kickoff the 2022 non-conference slate on Friday, then return to Bowling Green for the home opener at The Madhouse on Saturday. This is the regular season opener for Michigan State as they played an exhibition at home on October 1st vs. the US-NTDP which they lost 4-3. Spartans have a new head coach this season (Adam Nightingale) who came from the US-NTDP and is a Spartan alum. In net they feature Dylan St. Cyr who is in his sixth year of college hockey, spending four at Notre Dame and then last year with Quinnipiac.
Falcons coming off a split with NMU (although they took four of six conference points in the series) which saw a burst of offensive action while leaving plenty to clean up on the defensive side of the puck.
Friday's game will be available on B1G+, Saturday is available on FloHockey.

Saturday is an Orange Out, so wear your orange! I’m looking forward to being back at the Madhouse.
Also, there is a “College Gameday” style show coming to Liquid Bar in BG at 3:30 before the game on Saturday. John Rich (Brett Rich’s brother) is involved, so it’s going to be a Falcon-focused event. If you’re in the area and wondering what to do after football and before hockey, check it out!

Austen Swankler was named the CCHA’s Forward of the Week for the NMU series after 3 goals and an assist on the weekend.

You mean "GO SUCK AN EGG," right? At least that was the crowd version.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 2:29 pm As we used to say when I was in school back in the 80's, Go Green! Go White! GO F&%K YOURSELVES!

That was the tame version, promoted by the university and suitable for a Pat Boone album. Our version was for an N.W.A. album.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 03, 2022 3:55 pmYou mean "GO SUCK AN EGG," right? Wrap-up Notes:
-After the win on Saturday, the guys were really excited for Rose to get a win in his first game back
-He wants the guys to stay away from undisciplined penalties this year (that’s been a focused), and he thinks we did well with that against NMU. Wants to do better with the stick infractions moving forward.
-The mindset this year is grinding and thinking about what comes next. The guys weren’t defeated by not scoring the first goal in either game, but they were always battling and stuck to competing.
-He’s happy for Swankler winning CCHA Forward of the Week. Also gave a shoutout to Taylor Schneider, Ryan O’Hara, Brayden Krieger, Ben Wozney, and Chase Gresock for playing well/hard this weekend.
-Likes the way Rose has gotten involved in the transition game when we go from defense to offense and credits him for a goal on Saturday night.
-Ty tried to challenge an offside because he wanted a penalty to be negated. He wasn’t certain if that would be the case or not, but he wanted to push the issue.
-On MSU: It’s going to be a difficult weekend. We have to anticipate it being a difficult environment. We can’t get caught on our heels and be surprised by them, we have to expect that.
-For us to have played 2 games that mattered already gives us a really good head start on evaluating our group and gives us the chance to figure some things out right away.
-More guys are blocking shots this year, and that’s a mentality thing. Guys are getting involved with that and it’s a little infectious with the guys on the bench. 43 (!) blocks on the weekend against NMU.
-He thinks Dalton Norris came in and played well. They aren’t trying to give young guys too much too early this year (had to last year, learned a lot about balancing things from that). Called him “very natural with the puck on his stick.”

Re: @/vs. Michigan State (10/7 & 10/8)
I would say unless Michigan State has an amazing freshman recruiting class or the new coach has completely changed the culture BG should be looking to sweep. Had the opportunity to do that last weekend against a better team. I'm hoping that gets fix and closing out games becomes something we can handle.
Re: @/vs. Michigan State (10/7 & 10/8)
I'm driving up to MSU tomorrow for the game. Can anyone recommend a bar close by for pre-game beers and dinner? How's parking at Munn? I was at a game there before but it's been at least 15 years. Thank you.

First game under a new coach, technically their home opener with a renovated Munn, I would expect Sparty to come out with some gusto tomorrow. First 5-10 minutes will be important for BG to either get an early goal or very least weather the storm.unfalconbelievable wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 6:03 am I would say unless Michigan State has an amazing freshman recruiting class or the new coach has completely changed the culture BG should be looking to sweep. Definitely need a hot start on the road. At minimum, we need to play even and battle with them early.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 12:47 pmFirst game under a new coach, technically their home opener with a renovated Munn, I would expect Sparty to come out with some gusto tomorrow. There are three restaurants I used to haunt when doing campus recruiting at State, they're right next to each other on the north side of Albert St.: Black Cat Bistro, Harper's Brewpub, and Hop Cat.
