The Super Six Thread

Post by Bleeding Orange »

As dissapointed as I am that we aren't in it this year, my hatred for Michigoon and the Blackeyes is such that I must pay attention to this series. Heck, I may even go up on Friday to watch a game. With NMU currently up on WMU 3-0 in the second, I'm going to assume that NMU makes it. Here is the seeding as I see it:

1. Michigoon
2. Blackeyes
3. Northern Michigan
4. Nebraska-Omaha
5. Michigan State
6. Alaska-Fairbanks

This means that Thursdays games will be as follows (w/ UM and OSU getting byes):

Northern Michigan vs. Alaska-Fairbanks
Nebraska-Omaha vs. Michigan State

My call in those games:

Alaska-Fairbanks over Northern Michigan (I was just too impressed with them this past weekend).

Michigan State over Nebraska-Omaha

Which means that Friday we will see:

Michigan State vs. OSU (OSU winning)

Alaksa-Fairbanks vs. UM (UM winning)

Making the championship game:

OSU vs. UM (UM winning)

Those are my calls (as I understand the system). Let me know if I'm wrong or if you disagree!

Even though we're not in the Super 6 this year, I take comfort in the fact that we will soon be a mainstay in the tournament thanks to Pooch's leadership. College hockey is still college hockey, and this is a great time of year!

The only one of your predictions I don't know if I agree with is the Alaska Northern game. I wasn't terribly impressed with UAF on Saturday, and I don't know that the best team actually won (maybe I'm seeing this with orange colored glasses, but I don't think so). Saturday we played some really good hockey at times, while at others shooting ourselves in the foot. Siggy gave up some uncharacterist goals, and we got down too far, too early to make a sucessful comeback. UAF also played some fantastic hockey at times, while also making some mistakes that they paid for.

Of the entire Super Six, I defintly feel that the best match up is the UAF, UNO match up. Personally, I feel that match up is too close to call. Both were teams that scared me coming into the playoffs. If I was going to spend money on the Super Six, that would be the game I would go and see.

I totally agree with you, goofy. UAF, though, really, really did impress me this weekend. After seeing the performance the put up against us, I would pick them as a sleeper team to actually win the whole damn tourney. As frustrating as this weekend was, in my opinion, we didn't play that badly. UAF was truly that good. They looked, in my opinion, fast than Michigan (and I've seen us play Michigan 4 times in person this year). Indeed, last week we played much better against Michigan than we did against UAF, and we really weren't making that many passing mistakes against UAF to indicate that we were playing sloppier against them.

My hat is truly off to them, and I wish them the best of luck (albeit begrudgingly) at the the Joe. I just hope they can upset either UM or OSU. I'm sick of their recent dominance and I would be happy to see anyone BUT those two schools at the top of this conference.

Absoultly no argument here. If I were to pick a sleeper team, it would be the winner of the UAF, UNO match up. I really hope someone other than U of M, MSU, or OSU wins the CCHA title. I can't stand any of them either. Just because you go to a big school doesn't mean you are any better than us!!!
