2005-06 Recruits

Post by Bleeding Orange »

I thought it might be kind of nice to gather info. on our recruits for the upcoming year. Here is the most complete recruiting list I could find:

http://www.insidecollegehockey.com/7Arc ... s_ccha.htm

I did a google search for Jacob Cepis and came up with this:

http://www.teamjam.org/Cepis.htm

Besides being unable to spell Paluch's name right, get the number of NCAA championships that we have won right, and being totally God-centered, there is some pretty good information on the kid in here. Its also kind of cool to hear the reasons he chose BG.

Good grief. Michigoon has 15 recruits. That means that more than half of their team will be Freshmen. Can that be right???

My guess is that only 4-6 of them will ever see the ice at Yost. The rest of them have unwittingly signed on to serve as Red's personal slave for the next four years.

The following players have committed to become members of the Class of 2009 (or, in some cases, 2010 or '11), either verbally or by signing a National Letter of Intent.
For some reason they like recruiting a few years in advance. At least five are probably not for next year. Even early 88 birthdays would be a stretch to bring to college. I know young Sigalet came in as a 17 year old, but I don't see a team bringing 3 in at a time. I'm not sure of the age requirements for eligibility, but I think the 89 birth years are still ineligible. The late 88's should be as well because they won't even turn 18 until just prior to their sophmore year. Again, I don't know this 100%, but it sounds right.

* I also noticed that the kids with 88 and 89 birth years haven't signed letters of intent yet.

Reading the site Bleeding provide for Cepis, it says he's only a Jr in HS this season. He was born in late 87. (I'm talking about people born after 87 getting ready to enter college....man I feel old)

Speaking of potential recruits, take a look at this link. Got a kid here from Fort Wayne who would love to play in the Brown and Orange. Any guess who I am referring to? Also, is it too early to let Pooch know about this young man? He has already agreed to play juniors next year in Grand Rapids. Interested in hearing thoughts. :D

Both Cepis and Perkins will NOT be joining the Falcons until the 2006-2007 season. Both are excellent hockey players but it appears that Perkins may of ROTY written all over him. It's somewhat refreshing that we are landing recruits 2 years ahead of time....something not seen here for a long time. It says a lot about the direction the program is heading in when you start landing high caliber recruits early.

Wow. Those are numbers similar to what Doug Weight is putting up for my Sens in Gretzky's NHL 2005.

Someone call Pooch right now!

In addition to the other website mentioned, take a look at one I posted earlier this season. Pretty much along the same lines but give somes stats from this season (they are hard to look at). At the very least it is something to give us something to look at and think about while we wait for next season.

I hope here is the link to the site mentioned earlier:

On a side note, I wanted to congratulate your Falcons on a super season. Their success was a surprise to most everyone and I for one enjoyed it. Regardless of being a Hawks fan, I have a soft spot for BG and your past accomplishments. Please keep it up and renew what the CCHA should be. It isn't much fun watching UM winning all the time. Time for some new blood up top and your returning class can get it done (Matsumoto is the man!). I wish you wouldn't have exited the tourney so fast, I wanted to see you make a run. I wasn't expecting much out of us going to State, although I heard they were good games.

Thanks so much and I am looking forward to playing more games in Ohio next year too!! When we went to the Joe the last time, a LOT of people from around the league said similar kind things to us. Good to see there are a lot of veteran fans out there that respect and remember what BG was to the CCHA. Many, like yourself looked forward to see us compete for the top again. We are certainly headed that way and with the incredible talent on the team, the sky is the limit!!! Thanks again!!

GO HOCKEY!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
