Sounds like most, if not all, the team is present as well.

We'll see what happens with the portal following today. Some guys may have wanted to meet Willy before making a decision.

Stavros and Carr were also there today. Remains to see what happens with them, but they deserve commendation for holding down the fort during the transition. I suspect they'll continue to be involved until Everett is done in the WHL playoffs.

Good presser, this will take time obviously, but this group can compete if there's consistency and effort every night.

Will’ys contract is for 6 years, $1.95M.

Significant investment in the program.

I think that's the biggest message Williams was trying to convey. He's willing to work with whatever current players want to work with him. He'd rather make them better than try to go out and find a bunch of new guys for next season. It's a bit of a trade off with him coaching Everett through the playoffs.

Listening to the way he wants to play, he wants a team full of Owen Ozar's. There's definitely some guys already on the team that fit the mold, if they can get there physically (conditioning).

Average $325k/ year. About where I thought he'd be. Hopefully the assistant pool was increased similarly.

That's the same amount Miami State paid Bergeron for his one Nacho win this season.

I thought he signed for $400k when he left here?

His base year 1 was $305 with a $5k bump every year plus a bunch of incentives he never came close to hitting (top 4 Nachos, winning Nachos league, winning Nachos playoffs, NCAA tourney appearance, Nacho COY). Oh, he also got a $500/month car allowance plus a parking pass. That parking pass alone is worth $100k in Oxford ;-)

Thought it was interesting when DVDM mentioned when he asked the players what they are looking for out of a coach, it was someone who respects his team and respects the staff. Can't help but read between the lines on that one.

My take on that comment was the players wanted more of the same. Hmmm, feels like your read may be more accurate.

Seems like he was BG’s first option and BG was a job he wanted to get back to.

I like his statement that no other college job interested him. I’m glad both sides were able to forget past transgressions and move forward.

Also glad the University didn’t go the cheap route as well. They were willing to pay what it took to get the coach they wanted.

His Everitt teams are solid from the crease out. He always has great goaltenders and mobile defensemen. Hopefully they can bring that to BG. As Serratore at BSU shows every year, those two qualities can lead to titles in the offensively challenged CCHA. Now, doing anything in March, against the bigger leagues, you need some scoring touches as well, but one step at a time…..

I agree above, guys like Ozar and Emerson are going be exactly his type of guys.

Seems like he needs a “current” college coach on the staff somewhere. If the Mass rumors are true, that means neither him and at least one assistant have any recent NCAA recruiting experience. Although NCAA recruiting changes by the hour these days, so maybe not a big deal.

This year stunk.
First time in decades I didn’t make it to at least one weekend. I’ve been going to the Ice House since 1975, just didn’t feel the need this year.
Start to finish Eigner was just a “dead man walking”. I like Ty. I hope for him only the best.

Glad this year is over and we now have a clearer path forward and the program now seems to be back headed in the right direction.

Recruiting will be interesting. He was already recruiting kids to Everett. Even talked about losing some kids to NCAA, and that few knew some of the incoming recruits already. My take on that was some of them were ones he lost to NCAA. It's still recruiting the same players, just with a different message. The NCAA experience will be needed to help navigate the restrictions the NCAA has on recruiting that the WHL doesn't have.

Briggs is big on the Williams hire. I won't copy/past the The Blade article for copyright purposes but here's a link to a FB post that doesn't have the same qualms.
