Would teams out east travel to NW Ohio? We went to Q during Covid when no fans were allowed (kicked their ass real good, too) but they've never returned the favor. I would love to play more ECAC teams but not if they're unwilling to make the travel even Steven.

Fun fact: Hamden, CT (Q) is 200 miles closer to BG than Sioux Falls, SD (Augustana). Gives you a sense as to how ridiculously far flung the CCHA became when we added Augustana. Soooo, why'd we do that??? In fairness, Augustana is still a shorter distance than Bemidji. Whatever, no one asked for my opinion.

I was hoping that would be the case, but at the same time I wouldn't use that time to judge much in the way of hockey. BG was willing to play whoever was willing to play. I wouldn't be surprised at all to learn Q paid a large share of the travel for that series.

There are 305 players in the portal, with another 28 days to go in this window.

That’s already more than last season.

I'm expecting there to be a huge drop-off in the portal next year. This is the last year where players get the COVID bonus season to go start grad school somewhere else after playing four years in the same place.
I love people who can laugh at themselves. It saves me the effort.

Silvertips are down 3-0 to Portland, Game 4 is Friday. Possible that Willy has his sights on BG by early next week.

Last year there were just under 300 in the portal of which slightly more than 100 had 5th year eligibility. This year there are slightly more than 300 in the portal with slightly more than 100 with 5th year eligibility. With two data points in evidence it would not be out of bounds to conclude that going forward the portal would have around 1/3 fewer players next year or roughly 200.

Lost last night. Would expect Williams in town next for at least part of next week.

Curtis Carr and Stavros Paskaris were the assistants at BG this year, as with the past few seasons. Dylan Schoen was hired and also moved on during the offseason.

There should only be 2 choices under consideration. Flo and ESPN+. Flo has the AHA, ECHL, USHL, and I think even the SPHL for hockey. ESPN+ has I believe both Hockey East and ECAC, and obviously NHL. Goes without saying. Anything else adds very little value to most schools in the league (re-insert Minnesota bias jab here).

The Minnesotization of the CCHA continues in earnest. The only good thing is that the Midco thing is cheaper. Geez, why not call the Nachos and negotiate a 2-for-1 kinda deal. All the western leagues on the same platform would be a selling point.

As time goes on I find myself becoming less and less enamored with Lucia. That assumes I was highly enamored in the first place.

Having basically a standalone subscription service is asinine. There's no opportunity for exposure to a casual viewer. I can't count the number of non-BG games I've watched through FLO. This is comparable to Buckeye Cable trying to acquire the rights because they have the MAC (i know they actually don't). Nobody cares outside of the region.

Price is nicer, but why in the world would we not get on ESPN+? Would draw many more casual viewers that way, plus all of the other BG sports are houses there. I don’t even know what Midco is.

Midco is the equivalent of BCSN in Nowheresville, North Dakota/South Dakota/Western Minnesota. They are the sponsor of Augustana's new arena.

Lucia seems to have a raging you-know-what for all things Augustana. There had to have been some sort of unofficial conversations with the Midco crew about carriage, sponsorship, etc. wrapped in with this Augustana deal. I'm with PDT, being on Flo (which I'm not thrilled with) is a heckuva lot better than being on a deserted island located in the middle of nowhere.
