Let there be LIGHT...or at least MORE OF IT!!!!!!

Post by Falcon Fanatic »

They are FINALLY adding lights to the arena!!! Our son had a game tonight and we saw that new, additional lights are being added over the ice. About a third of the ceiling was done and WOW was it MUCH brighter over the ice at that end!! It's really amazing how DULL it looked it in there with the current lights! KUDOS to the improvements!! Hope there are more coming!!!

'BOUT FREAKIN' TIME!!!! (Sorry, Freak, no offense intended!! )

GO HOCKEY!!!!

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Buddy Powers, the man with a plan. We are quite lucky to have someone who cares as much as Buddy does running that facility. DROP THE PUCK!!!!!

Or at least have an announcer with a deep enough voice that you can understand what he is saying!! Most of the time it sounds like Charlie Brown's teacher talking!!!!

The walls were painted within the last 5 years, I think. The thing that needs the most attention other than lights is the ROOF. It leaks like crazy and it's soooo attractive for recruits to see baskets catching drips and plastic taped to the walls to channel the water into a bucket!!

I do know that a feasibility study is being done and the results of that should be out soon, just not sure how soon. All of these steps are moving us in the right direction, thankfully!!!!

Not to nitpick, but standing by the Zamboni doors every game like I do, you can definately tell it's not the announcer's fault. At the very least, the end speaker on the Section A side cuts in and out and has a lot of static.

That may be true about the speakers, but we sit in section B just up from the chair seats and the speakers there don't cut in and out or have static, it's just hard to understand the guy's voice. When Tom Glick was the announcer, we understood everything he said....unless, of course, the crowd was screaming too loud! :D Glick's voice had a really deep timbre to it and it carried very well in the arena. It hasn't been the same since. I agree that we need a better sound system, but with the tin roof and the crowd noise, a deeper sounding voice would certainly carry better in there.

DROP THE PUCK!!!!!

Don't get me started on this topic again. It's been a pet pieve for me over the last several years. Without doubt, our sound system is overdue for an upgrade and/or overhaul...BUT a good portion of the problem could be solved cheaper by putting a voice behind the microphone. We have no problem hearing and understanding the 'substitute' PA guy (no matter who it is). The regular guy's voice has no tone or resinence. He's also got a habit of talking too much AND saying too little...that's a tough combination.
He also ends each phrase or statement with a rise in his pitch, as if he were asking a question. End of rant.

Is it the fluorescent tubes are being replaced by modern lighting? I hope so. It will be great. Really, I have no problem with the arena, except for the lights. Have you been to Michigan? What a dump except for a nice high ceiling and great lighting. As far as the sound system at BG, I too think it's the announcer, but I think it's because he talks too fast for the lousy acoustics in an ice arena, but then I am only able to get to a few games a year
PS, sorry about that xxx thing in the other post -- tried out an avatar and didn't like it.

Its cool. You have to admit that it was a weird post to find in such an old thread. No need to go rollin' the eyes on me...

They are replacing some of the flourescent tubing with different tubing. The current ones there are two lights side by side. They are removing some of them and adding in ones that have six tubes. And they are only doing it over the ice area. There weren't any more new ones put in when we were there on Thursday, though. It might not be new "modern" lighting, but it is MORE lighting and it's incredible the difference that it has made. Can't wait for them to get the rest of them in!!! On ice practice starts Oct. 1, so it would be nice if they got it done before then!!
