Re: Off-season 2025
Everyone on this board knows the history of blech around here. No one is debating any of that. Nobody is saying we got it in the bag because of reasons. But to say DVDM has his head up his ass is just plain stupid. To say national prognosticators who make coin rating this stuff have their heads up their asses because they nationally ranked a recruiting class from a program with 40 years of blech is just plain stupid. I went back and reread this thread; no one here said a single thing about "something special brewing" -- except Guest. The furthest anyone went is that this class is better than it's been in a long while. But even that was simply too much for some. The ghost of Moose and the Con Man must live on eternally and on May Day 2025 we still need to atone for the sins of Bergeron and Eigner. It's obvious to everyone that ten years from now these four will still be living rent free in Guest's head.
And I think we finish 3rd this year behind St. Thomas and Augustana. So no, I'm not looking at the MacNaughton through orange colored glasses.

Sorry forgot to post the link I was referencing that I read immediately before posting . https://www.facebook.com/bgsualumni/ I never said DVDM had his head up his ass, he is far more qualified than the previous crew, but the results are pretty mediocre despite headlines like this link. He can sell to some. It's more about not having actually won anything yet. Therefore, I disagree that anything is "brewing" until something is actually won. Plenty of years have passed to do just that. The only thing currently in common with Western Michigan is the conference they share for the other sports. That's just my opinion.
Re: Off-season 2025
I do see your point, but I also think it's okay for us to celebrate obvious steps forward. It has been a clear step up in coaching and a clear step up in recruiting. Need to see the results on the ice, but it's the off season. The things we can pay attention to at this point are looking up.guest44 wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 9:24 am John didn’t run for the hills. He just doesn’t like a differing opinion that’s all. It’s ok, he will get over it. JFC I know you LOVE BGSU hockey, but the coffee maker is still on the shelf at Walmart as of May 2025. A lot needs to happen before anything is brewed.

Fair point. I’m old school. Momentum comes organically, and you don’t generally need to say it over and over to have it.

Re: Off-season 2025
I had to take you off of block to read this and boy am I glad I did. So what's gotten under your skin is a marketing message from the athletic department. A marketing message intended to amplify good news about a BG program. A message that is intended to drive engagement with people who show barely a marginal interest in BG athletics. A message the athletic department is hoping will generate enough interest to lead to an accretive ticket sale (i.e. an increase in revenue). THAT's what has you all in a tizzy? A marketing message?guest44 wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 10:24 am Sorry forgot to post the link I was referencing that I read immediately before posting . https://www.facebook.com/bgsualumni/ I never said DVDM had his head up his ass, he is far more qualified than the previous crew, but the results are pretty mediocre despite headlines like this link. So if you were king for a day in the Bowling Green athletic department, you would have made sure the marketing team sat on this messaging opportunity because of the previous 40 years of blech and to stick it to Moose and the Con Man who aren't even here? Dude, you appear to be advocating for exactly what you regularly accuse Moose and the Con Man of not doing. I know you aren't a businessperson because no one with any business sense would sit on an opportunity to promote their product. And if you are a businessperson, then you're being purposefully disingenuous.
Congratulations. You made my brain hurt today.

Speaking of Western, rumor is their head coach interviewed for the Philadelphia Flyers job.

Their president of hockey ops (Keith Jones) played with him at WMU, so I buy that.

Fersch worked under Babcock for a couple years in Detroit, so he has some NHL ties. Would be foolish to turn that opportunity down. Can always fall back to college if things don't work out.

David Carle turned down the Blackhawks job. Dumpster fire of a job, but has said he'd rather have the stability of coaching Denver than the short term of the NHL.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 11:41 am

Hawks get what they deserve after bungling the Kyle Beach situation so poorly. Bedard is also not as good as everyone thought he would be, and is going to need help there to be successful. Philly is in better shape with some young guys, and the East is weaker overall than the West is.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 11:44 amDavid Carle turned down the Blackhawks job. A tizzy? I'm hardly in a tizzy. Did you know BGSU has a REALLY big band? I'm just saying nothing has brewed yet. It's like it's 2am. You drive by the local Starbucks. It's closed the next day for Christmas. The next day at around 4:30 or 5 in the morning, they brew the coffee. It's about 26 hours before the brew.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 11:13 amI had to take you off of block to read this and boy am I glad I did. There are those that see the glass half full while others see the glass as half empty. Then there is Guest44 who complains about the glass, its contents, how it was poured, and who poured it.
To Guest44 - I am very willing to hear various opinions and there are many varying opinions in this thread alone. What I have trouble with is people like you who come off as know it alls. You are the one that is not willing to listen to other opinions. Everything is negative. Things never will change if all you do is find fault with everything single thing. That is why I have blocked you. Unfortunately, I see some of your negativity when others quote your comments.
Take these comments from a person who disliked our last 3 ADs before Derek immensely for various reasons. Changes take time. Why can't we celebrate a possible strong recruiting class? Try accepting that others are allowed to have opinions that differ than yours.

So, once again, you are upset in the way the athletic department is promoting their product. We all get your coffee metaphor and its link to the marketing message, no need to belabor it. Honestly, I don't know what it is you want. Do you want them to ignore the ranking and do nothing? That's what the previous guy did and to this day you still excoriate him for it so that can't be it. Is it that you don't like the wording on the FB post? OK, fine, I can accept that. But rather than bitch and moan and blame the Con Man, Eigner, Doyt Perry, and whatever name from ancient BG history you can dredge up, tell me what it is you think the messaging should be. Take a constructive approach and tell me how the athletic department should message the current hockey recruiting class ranking in a way that will not get you all upset. And if I'm wrong in assuming doing nothing like Moose and the Con Man is bad, then say so. Ready? 3...2...1...GO.guest44 wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 1:55 pmA tizzy? I'm hardly in a tizzy. Re: Off-season 2025
The ranking is fantastic. It was promoted. A cool graphic saying they have the #1 recruiting class. I'm just saying that haven't won anything. Start 6-0 or 5-1 and it's brewing. It's brewing because of the recruiting class and not because Western Michigan won the title right? if it's brewing has anything to do with the latter, I would strongly disagree. Oh, I torched the previous guys for much more than how they promoted the product. Incompetent. The actual performance on the ice, field, court or whatever surface has not been that much better than it was before with Moosbrugger. And it would be nearly impossible to be worse. It's early, it could and should change. That's all.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 3:02 pmSo, once again, you are upset in the way the athletic department is promoting their product. Re: Off-season 2025
So you'll accept a marketing message that basically lists "just the facts, ma'am" and any effort by the athletic department to gin up further excitement beyond that is crossing a line with you. OK, I got it. I think that's a dumb take strictly from the standpoint of trying to promote a program to put more butts in seats. I also find it totally ironic that even to this day you bitch incessantly about Moose's lack of product promotion then turn right around and bitch about DVDM's "over the top" messaging (my words, not yours - but you get my point).guest44 wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 3:42 pmThe ranking is fantastic.
