the guys on this team hung in there during some adversity, unlike lastyear and the year before when the going got tough, the whimps folded. This team has good chemistry and with consistancy in net we will make a lot of head way. This team has some fight in them unlike last year as well. Exciting to watch, I am going to enjoy watching this team develop this season.
great weekend.

The problem (in my opinion) is that everyone is comparing every goalie we have to Jordan Sigalet. Siggy was unbelievable in the net, but he's not here anymore.

Spratt will only get better, and if you watched the UCONN game I think you saw some flashes of what he can become.

Speaking of goalies, that UAH goalie made an absolutely sick save in the 2nd period, diving across the crease to get a glove on a shot off a nice rebound. We ended up scoring soon after, I think, but I remember talking to some of the people around me about it.

Oh yeah, I remember that one. I don't know if I have ever done it for an opposing goalie before, but I immediately screamed "HOLY CRAP WAS THAT AN AWESOME SAVE!" And it was so good I didn't even regret saying it!

I've done it once or twice before, but this was one of the better ones I've seen. As soon as he made the stop, my friend and I turned to each other and just started clapping. I find no shame in admitting when an opponent makes a stellar save like that.

Nor do I. Now that I'm thinking about it, I did roughly the same thing on Friday night when UConn's goalie made that awesome sweep-high glove save on Matsumoto's wrister. The teams we played this weekend may not be all that great unit-wise, but damn did we face two outstanding goalies. Props to both of them!

That was an impressive stop to say the least, but what about that stop on that one timer from point blank range in OT. Their goalie is prett good

I played goal in high school, my dad played for 25 years and my brother 15 (who is now the goalie coach of the BGSU Club Hockey Team  ). I'll just tell you from experience, that much of the blame a goalie gets is much undeserved, although it always ends up that way. I wasn't able to be at the game, but saw it on BCSN today and I can tell you that Spratter had very little chance on the 1st and 3rd goals.

Often times in hockey, the goalie is pulled not because he is struggling, but to give the team a kick in the ass, which was the case today. Spratt was hung out to dry for the time he was in there today, he will be fine this season. Too often people criticize the goalie for goals that largely aren't his fault. Just my two cents worth.
Aside from the two quick goals in the last period I was impressed with Neville. He showed pretty good poise for being a freshman. The only thing that bugged me about him was the way he comes waaaaaaay out of the goal to size up the opposition.
Goalies are taught to play high and cut down the angles. The farther out you play, the less net the player has to look at. Make the player blow the puck into you instead of playing too deep and leaving yourself prone to rebounds with guys crashing the net. You can argue that it leaves a goalie prone to cross-ice one-timers for goals, but that's what your defenseman are for.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.

Reminds me of the Angelo Libertucci/Gary Kruzich comparisons.

How about his blocker instead of his glove :-D But that's just nitpicking there...But seriously, he dropped his stick and reached up with his blocker hand to make that save. It was an awesome save.

As for the comparisons made between Spratt and Sigalet, I can remember some not-so-stellar games by the man between the pipes a few years ago.....

You got me there, but at least I said something other than "hand", which I originally typed without thinking. It was between glove and blocker and I chose incorrectly. Looks like I fail at hockey.

That's just ridiculous... Gary Kruzich didn't have NEARLY the smooth hairstyle of Angelo Libertucci. :-D

corner next to the student section. Without any warnings, without any real reason, he yelled at me "Stop pounding on the glass or you're DONE!"

yeah i was banging on the glass too the police think they have to regulate that sort of behavior but obviously when it comes to things like pounding on the glass i would just move seats and sit somewhere else and pound ont he glass haha

overall we have work to do and its early in the season. should have been a W but hats off to the team and our vets so to say whitmore and matsey stepped up and brought us back into the game. :)

First off, there are a lot of you that contridict yourself a lot. Before you guys said that last year the team made good strides by beating OSU and that stuff. Now you are saying that this team has more will and heart. When they beat OSU or Michigan then you can say that. It is not justified after a tie and overtime win against two brutal teams.
Playing devil's advocate, if the goalie for Uconn played as good and unstoppable as he did what is going to happen when BG plays against a goalie like michigans who i very good 99% of the time and has the team playing infront of him that michigan. The only reason BG won this weekend was because they played two horrible opponents. It would have been a much different weekend if they played Michigan, OSU or BC.
Those are games that BG is expected to win and win with ease. The great championship teams don't fall to teams which they are expected to hammer. They may lose a couple close games against quality opponents but rarely do they ever tie Uconn.
The fans of BG should expect wins especially when there is the huge amount of talent on the team. They should hold the coach responsible for not producing what they expect. Quit with the excuses of it being a rebuilding time, that time passed a couple years ago. Now he has all his own players and its time for wins. Not ties against subpar teams like Uconn.

Did anyone happen to hear who won the 50-50 yesterday? It was WILL CLARKE, former Falcon goalie!! How cool is that? He was back to visit for homecoming weekend!!

Jon Sitko was also in attendance. My daughter referred to him as "one of those old hockey players that used to play here!" :-D That was pretty funny. Even Jon thought so!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
