Bowling Green Recruit

Looking to further fill some holes and shore up what they hope will be a much better 2008 season, the Bowling Green Falcons earned a commit from Des Moines defenseman Andrew Krelove for this coming fall.

"He's been a very good player for us," says Bucs' coach/G.M. Regg Simon. "He was very instrumental in our winning the Clark Cup last year. We picked him up in a deadline deal with Lindsay (of the Ontario Provincial League) and he completed our defensive corp."

Simon thinks Krelove will bring a nice mix of abilities to the Bowling Green blueline.

"Andy's a good skater, is physical for his size, and is really the ultimate team guy - blocking shots, played solid defense first, always doing what was best for the team. He played in our top 4 all season long - killed penalties and was on our second PP unit."

Further, Krelove is known a good guy to have in the locker room.

"He's fun to be around," adds Simon. "Guys on the team love him. Has a great personality and really deserves to be moving on to a great school and program like BGSU."

With Krelove in tow, here's BG's 2007 recruiting class:

Andrew Krelove-LD (5/18/07) Des Moines (USHL) 5'11 175 4-15-87 49-5-18-23-46
Brennan Vargas-RW (3/30/07) USNDPT U-18 Team 6'1 180 6-15-89 (2007 or 2008)

Wade Finegan-C (3/25/07) Georgeton (OPJHL) 5'10 170 1-2-86 46-27-32-59-30 49-17-17-34-56

Patrick Tiesling-RW (1/25/07) Sioux Falls (USHL) 6'2 188 1-5-88 60-8-14-22-30 || 55-3-5-8-59

David Solway-LC (1/24/07) Sioux Falls (USHL) 5'10 155 5-30-87 56-20-21-41-113

Josh Unice-G (10/28/05) USNDPT U-18 Team 6'1 155 6-24-89

Jacob Cepis-C (7/29/04) Cedar Rapids (USHL) 5'8 160 12-21-87 58-34-38-72-59 1st team all-star || 58-12-17-29-36

All in all, we think this is a decent recruiting class for Falcons' coach Scott Paluch and company. Cepis could be a star, while Krelove and company will add depth. The big question will be goaltender Josh Unice. If he can play to the level expected of him, this could turn out to be one of BG's best goaltending finds in years.
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."
~~USCHO Poster
"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I fully agree that the goalie COULD be unreal and Cepis is our best pick other than that. (unfortunate for his size). The rest however are plugs at best. Excluding the D-men because alot of times it is good to have defensive D-men, but the forwards have poor numbers. Not exactly the class that I thought they would bring in to help the scoring issue. Doesn't look there is going to be any scoring punch brought in, but thats OK cause I swear we didn't have problem scoring last year. :?

it is a good class and in this age of faster players over big brutes I think were on track. Yea the individual numbers are not jaw dropping but the last thing this team needs is a bunch of individuals, so in that respect I think we are in a good way, and last year, when the guys were healthy at the end of season we were finding the net. the others teams were to so im hoping for big gains with our goalies, but in the end any time there is a shot that heads toward the goal there have all ready been 5 other mistakes along the way that could have prevented it being taken
I hope to get over this next week and snap off some pics for you all with something other than the phone so I can put up some quality images for inspirational purposes.

Is winning 10 or 12 games this year enough wins to make the masses happy?

I've never really fit in to the "masses" category, but it certainly wouldn't make me happy.

I'd be ashamed if 10 wins was a good season for our hockey program.

Hey we may end the season in last again, but you can bet that we'll come up fighting hard. Cepis is a great on offence, but a little small. As long as our defence plays well we'll finish with more wins than last year.

I guess it really depends on how you define happy. A 10-win season is no cause for a parade. The bottom line is that I want to get an idea that positive steps are being taken. After last season's display, 10 wins would be an improvement.

Ill say it like this
a 10 win season with this team is totally unacceptable.

josh may or may not be ready, time will tell for sure and there is point in puting him prematurely since we have a mature goaltender who has demonstrated an ability to get it done, he can get it done, he just needs to know he can do it week in and out and I think hes at those cross roads, where he will mentally turn the corner and stay with it.
goes with out saying that our bench is deep and skilled, yet over looked by many because we dont have all the individual star types...I just hope to see them flow all season as they were at this past seasons close.
This team will take its rightful spot in frey this season.

The following comments or questions are not the opinion of Azzy or the writer of this post. Comments and questions are meant to stir the pot and also get some answers to questions that are out there.

Do we have an assist. coach yet?
Will Coach Paluch hire a highly qualified coach that will be a good teacher to the young players, and possibly leave in a year, or will he hire a person that will want to settle into Bowling Green?

If we win 12 games or less will MACMAN concede that there is a problem that starts at the top of the program, Paluch and Ribeau. ? 12 / 34 = 35%

How many games have we won out of a possible number of games since 2002 - 03?

If we have won 5 games or less thru December, can Coach Paluch go on medical leave and allow an assistant coach take over?

If we have another abysmal season will MACMAN and about 1000 other fans donate $ 100 to buy out the contract?

If the athletic department pays $ 220,000 to buy out the remaining 2 years of the coach’s contract ( still shaking my head about that “deal” ), and if the coach finds another coaching job, does the bought out person ( Coach Paluch ) owe money back to the University. Like alimony payments stop if the wife re-marries.

Do we want a multi use facility like a small Schott? If they build one of those, where is it suppose to be built?
I'm not sure if I care which way they go; I know that MACMAN and I will be there to help raise money for the program.

multi-use

If they go for a multi-sport facility, it should be more like at Lake State - permanent ice(s), permanent court(s).

I agree there. And if they worked it side by side somehow, they could save on a Falcon Club lounge that would oversee each facility, not to mention lobby, restrooms, hall of fame and other features.

Response: my understanding is that there are now 3 highly qualified persons on the short list..and that while nothing is ideal..any one of them could be a top pick as HC els where. So nothing is certine...esp for coaches climbing the ladder...but were getting a good one.

If we win 12 games or less will MACMAN concede that there is a problem that starts at the top of the program, Paluch and Ribeau. ? 12 / 34 = 35%
Response
I will if all players are healthy, unlike lastyear where they were plagued, but will say that with this talent pool..if its sour changes will need to be made...and in return offer that if we win 12 games of more will the mysterous bigdog concede that the problem was never coaching?

How many games have we won out of a possible number of games since 2002 - 03?
Response dont care at this point...only care about the games at the close of the season when we were healthy and showing folks what this team should have been doing all year.

If we have won 5 games or less thru December, can Coach Paluch go on medical leave and allow an assistant coach take over?
response if we have won 5 games or more threw dec will you donate 100 dollars to the hockey program with a note that Paluch is doing a great job of bringin this team back to glory, and that as a former player you wish you were on this squad.

If we have another abysmal season will MACMAN and about 1000 other fans donate $ 100 to buy out the contract?
respomse see above

If the athletic department pays $ 220,000 to buy out the remaining 2 years of the coach’s contract ( still shaking my head about that “deal” ), and if the coach finds another coaching job, does the bought out person ( Coach Paluch ) owe money back to the University. no

Do we want a multi use facility like a small Schott? If they build one of those, where is it suppose to be built?
response my understanding is would be ploped down either directly in front of and on the parking lot of the current rink or back to the north of sebo.
I'm not sure if I care which way they go; I know that MACMAN and I will be there to help raise money for the program.
that we will and I even offer up that if you would like to lace them up and are in the area..my old Effers team could use some help this summer....pm me if your in the area and in the mood.

Here is a thought

Post by jontends »

when buddy powers was fired, the team finished 9th in the CCHA.

The last two seasons, underneath coach Paluch, the team has finished 12th. It may be time for Pooch to leave.

Anybody else agree??????
