GREAT JOB HOCKEY!!! After winning a grand total of SEVEN games last year, the Falcons are already at 3 this year...that says something.
I agree!! I was more than a little annoyed at dannyk's posts. Everyone bitches their heads off about their frustration with the state of hockey in BG. Let the fans and the team enjoy their weekend overtime(s) sweep!!!! We do feel we have a few things to be excited about. This team was ahead 4-0, and within a period was facing a 4-4 overtime. They didn't give up. They fought their tailfeathers off for that win. Last year's team would have probably lost that game....this is a different team. The speed, intensity and agression I see out on the ice is more than a little encouraging for this long suffering, but die-hard fan. Every team that has pulled themselves out of the cellar did it by having weekends like this one. These two overtime wins will do wonders for team confidence (that was lacking in the past) heading into the next two weekends, both of which we are capable of sweeping. Believe me, I'm not thinking that because of this weekend's sweep, we are headed for the Title game, but I am thinking that we are definitely headed in the right direction!!! That said:

GO FALCONS!!
SWEEEEEEEEEEP THE BULLDOGS!!!

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Obviously you didn't go to the game. I suggest that you go before passing judgement. There are many differences, thus far, between this year's team and season's past. By far the biggest, in my mind, is that we're NOT playing down to the level of our competition as we did in the past. A look at the shot count in both games attests to that. Friday night we out shot them 30-16, and Saturday night we doubled them up 44-22! This was unheard of in the past...we would play great against the top teams but tank against the lower tiered teams.

With that said, come to a game before making posts like this because you CANNOT pass judgment without being there. Your opinion holds no water because you're basing it primarily on the past and not the present. So, until you actually see a game I'll treat your comments like a bad fart.....they stink and have no substance. :smt118

This team is definitely headed in the right direction. The game on Saturday night was exciting to watch and despite getting tied in the 3rd period, we showed great character to come back in OT and WIN. Last year we never would have won such a game if we got pegged back in the third period. I really like this Cepis kid. I am still learning some of the intricicies of hockey but he does some great things and will only get better. Great to look at the CCHA standings this morning and NOT see us at the bottom. We split this weekend at Ferris State and then sweep Northern to be 5-2 in the conference going into a return date with ND on Nov. 20.

It is always great to see a sweep. It would be even better to have more students there to see it and share in the moment.

dforde,

I agree for the most part re: Cepis, however as Fanatic and I talked about during the second period while behind the glass, "we" seem to think that he is trying to do too much on his own. I am NOT getting down on him, I think he has loads of talent, however once again, he is now playing at a different level - not juniors where he could do it all alone - so he must reach the point where he somehow gets his linemates involved a tad more. Great weekend for all Falcon teams (and the Lions no less  ). Let's hope it continues for ALL!!!!!
Forever a Falcon!!

Hum...I dont know how much Jr hockey you have watched, but there is little where one guy can do it all. I do think I know what your referring to here, but could be wrong so here goes.... and we do have several player who routinely carry puck deep into the offensive zone, and or will carry the puck back behind the net. this is a great tool not to be confused with showboating or being a puck hog. Anytime you have players that posses the speed and vision to be able to carry the puck deep, you need to capitalize on that skill. As it represents a wonderful that opens tons of play opportunity from drop passes, to crosses in front of the crease, to that my favorite and hated as a goalie the one from the guy behind the net that goes across the slot to your backdoor before your D has set up on the incoming attackers..
got a little pissed at the game when some old time fans...I say that because I remember them from way back got pissed that so and so was shooting just wide of the net and low all the time...clearly some things have not changed and they did not understand that that was a look at traffic for a tip from the man down low...any way
McIlrath is another one to watch....he carry s the puck well, hits well on the for and back check, shoots well, get back on D well and puts out on some real nice passes. Kid deserves a some strong praises. Hes a play creator.
There are again some players on this team whos name will be referred to long after they have gone on in life. New Hockey hero's. so see that..not allthings am i against :D

In the USHL one player can dance around a lot more than in the NCAA. I personally am not impressed by Cepis yet. I myself am a classic guy who likes forwards to deke passed one player then pass not try to deke through the entire defence and score. If I were a defencman and saw Cepis dancing like that....an open ice hit would be seen soon after.
Dave Ellett is a hero. A Bowling Green Falcon and a Former Jet and Maple Leaf. What more can a Winnipegger ask for.

I'm not sure that's exactly what "we" said... Seriously though, looking back over the last two home games I've seen (ND & WMU), I think his transition to this level is impressive. Some take longer, but obviously the ice time he gets makes that go a lot faster. He is a shifty player on the ice and that makes him a LOT of fun to watch and hard to catch by the opposing team. I think we're going to really enjoy watching him develop over the next four years!!

The only game I've been able to catch this year was the Notre Dame game, and the comment I made then after watching Cepis is that he is deceptively fast, but can't do it all by himself. He's got a lot of learning to do, but definitely one of our great freshmen.

I'm interested to see what Solway does with his time here. He seems like a good high-energy player.
