Would the three folks who picked Whitmore (x3!) to score the first Falcon goal step up to claim their prize...

Good win for the Falcons, congrats to Derek on his third hat trick of the season... now for the unpleasantness at the end... I'll be interested to hear a recap of that. Initially, it seemed to be sour grapes, but all five players from each team getting tossed? That seems ugly (and, quite frankly...a little awesome. )

It was ugly...a Western defenseman began shoving I believe Geelan along the boards near the penalty box. The Western player then dropped his gloves and began swinging, Geelan followed and then the other 8 guys just joined in. Moore for BG got cut over his right eye, almost everyone's helmet was ripped off in the fight. After all 10 men had been sent to their respective dressing rooms, the play ensued and when the final horn went, Paluch said something to the WMU coach and didn't look too pleased.

As a side note, I believe that was the loudest I have ever heard the ice arena in many years. The place was literally shaking. As assistant coach of the club team though, I gotta wonder if any of our guys will be seeing some varsity time, depending on how many games each player got.

On a positive note for tomorrow UWM will be without their top two defenceman Frank and Collins this is for sure as they both dropped their gloves and swung.

What a mess of a game! BG looked uncomfortable bringing the puck up the ice; it looked like a different (new?) scheme or whatever it's properly called. The guys tip-toed through the 4 first-period minutes of the PP on the checking from behind major. I'm not sure there was a shot, much less a shot on goal.

The officiating was a disaster. K--whatever-his-name-was is challenging Hall as the worst ref in the CCHA.

The fight was on my side of the rink, and I couldn't see what was going on after it started. My take on the start of it is that a Bronco did not care for Geelan's move toward the Bronco with the puck. It wasn't a strong move, but I suppose giving-up two empty-netters made the guy a little sensitive.

I'm surprised things didn't turn ugly sooner. A player could grab a guy and take him down from behind and not suffer a penalty, but brush a sleeve and be sent to the box. At least with Hall I can sort of understand why he makes or doesn't make a bad call. This guy was incomprehensible.

The 5 Western players on the ice had no intention of playing hockey when they went out on the ice. The league is probably already reviewing the game. Personally, with all the cheap crap that was happening, I would not be surprised at all to see the Western coach suspended.

I'm glad that even as horrible as we were the past few seasons, we never played like they did.

I remember the last time WMU came to the ice arena this year, things were very very chippy. I think at one time three or four guys were in the penalty box for each team. How the refs were not prepared for something to transpire is beyond me.

Both teams were chripping all night it was only a matter of time before fights broke out. Western was on it because Geelan broke one of their player's hands. don't remember if there was a penalty or a no see 'em with the ref. one ?---why was Geelan on the ice if the above was true?. Western is even more physical @ home & they get last change. The triclops was in the dark on this one. Thanks to the REALLY LOUD crowd what an atmosphere!!!!!!!

If the player's hand was broken, it was #9 I think. There was nothing to the hit when it happened. Western got away with far worse all night. It would have been right before they got the too many men on the ice penalty. Actually, it was the reason. #9 was going to the bench holding his arm when he decided to try and make a play. If that was the reason for the fight, what a joke. All the cheap shots, clotheslines, etc...Cepis was practically raped in the second period and Perkin ended up in the box for standing up for him. I very likely doubt we'll ever see Kotyra again. 207 penalty minutes combined. 120 for Western alone. That's 2 games worth of penalties.

The whole refereeing staff was a joke and an embarrassment to the game!! The linesmen were so worried about where everyone was standing for faceoffs...How many times did they toss guys out of the faceoff circle??? The head ref....was TERRIBLE!! Totally inconsistant!! How many times did we have guys hauled down by the neck RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM and he called NOTHING!!! Unfreakin' believable....I hope Paluch sends the game tape to the league to review the refereeing because it was awful. The ref is the reason that game got out of hand at the end. PERIOD!!!

Congrats to Whitmore on his NATURAL HATRICK!!! \:D/

Way to go guys.....NOW GET THE SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

I don't mean to be picky, but Whitmore didn't have a natural hat trick...a natural hat trick is scoring three successive goals in the same period. I think the natural hat trick term has been skewed around a bit in recent years.

"With a pack of reporters bearing down on him, Jim Culhane sighed, pursed his lips and then shook his head.

Scott Paluch, Bowling Green's hockey coach, had no comment.

But Chris Frank, one of Western Michigan's captains and enforcers, had plenty to say about what happened near the end of his team's 4-1 loss to the Falcons on Friday night at BGSU Ice Arena.

In fact, Frank could hardly wait to explain why he and his teammates touched off a melee with 12 seconds left, an all-out line brawl that littered the ice with gloves and sticks, nearly involved the goaltenders and sent 10 players off the ice with fighting majors and game misconducts.

"It was frustration, but it was also because No. 22 (BG's Ben Geelan) slashed (Patrick) Galivan right in the wrist and hurt him pretty bad," Frank said. "He's had problems with that wrist and it was pretty bad, so we wanted to let them know that we weren't going to stand for that."
