I'm sure everyone knows what Derek Whitmore is up to but there was a nice article about him in the BG News today that gives a bit of an update.

That's a nice piece, and a good quote at the end. As a Buffalo fan, Whitmore might be my new favorite player of all time. Rochester native, BG guy, Buffalo Sabre. Can't do much better than that. He'll probably begin the season in the AHL with Portland, who replaced Rochester as the Sabres new affiliate.

Johnathon Matsumoto scored the game deciding goal for the Philadelphia Phantoms against the Flyers yesterday. It was the Flyers final pre-season tune-up.

Whitmore will be playing for Portland coach Kevin Dineen. Kevin is a great guy and a great coach. I'm sure will push Whit to utilize his skills to the max. Whit will play in the NHL some day.

Kevin Bieksa tweaked his knee early in the season opener and is looking at an MRI. And somehow I missed/forgot about Rob Blake signing with the Sharks, but he had two assists in the opener.
