BGTimmy, If you've been following my posts I'm not "blaming" the arena. Of course we want to change the product on the ice first and foremost but the arena that was "good" in the 80's is old and in need of repair and / or replacement in 2009 ! I was also there at the same time as yourself and remember the lines for tix and what the program was like then which is why I'm on this board BEATING THE DRUM FOR CHANGE !!
I'm freakin' sick to my stomach with this current program and the way it has become the red headed step-child of the revenue producing sports and
the athletic department. We all need to e-mail and pick up the phone and let our AD know this crap is over and NOT be nice about it because that doesn't seem to work.

The problem is that the only person this AD pays attention to is himself!

Dude, the arena needs to be renovated. Yeas it was good in the 80's, but that was a quarter century ago. Trust me, a high quality arena does wonders for recruiting. I grew up in Madison watching the Wisconsin Badgers play. When they moved from the Dane County Coliseum (now the Alliant Energy Center) into the Kohl Center in the mid 90s, recruiting jumped up a huge amount. It was partly because the DCC was a dump and the Kohl Center was a brand new, state of the art arena. It does more than you think

i'm not gonna lie, i was pretty disappointed when they announced the stroh was just going to be basketball and not a transition arena. if we could have gotten that, then even paluch could have turned our program into a winner. BUT i do understand that the cost was pretty astronomical...still sucks

That's not true at all. The talent is on the team...or was. That's all there is to it. A new building, a renovated building, it doesn't matter. It'll be good for one, maybe two years of winning because of the newfound excitement surrounding the team. After that, it's back to the same old same old. You don't shut out any UofM team in Yost without the talent to be at least top 6 team in this league. That goes straight to the coaching for non-utilization of talent and/or lack of motivation.

The team has lost faith in Paluch. Maybe they never even gave him a chance. Whatever it is, he's done. He will not win this team over and get them to believe in his system or trust him as a person. That's the key to a successful coach. Not just having sound coaching strategies, but having players that understand and believe in these strategies as well. Doesn't matter what sport it is, that's what it takes. One of these things is missing.

Well if the AD was out of town and it sure sounds like he was, then it never happend.

The thing with renovations for the rink are the same as they are for many schools. They are more costly than replacment in the long term. I would tend to believe that since the Rink was poorly designed in the first place (flat roof, in wall drainage, bolted on decorative skin panels) that it could well be less costly to replace the facility with new one.
In the end what need for sure is good ice, consistent ice. That means we need air handling, seal the building and new chillers. The program will be fine if go that first mile....and a coach.

How about better lighting, sound system, seats, etc.

How does the ice arena compare now to the rest of the CCHA rinks?

Is there a dumpier building on campus? For a building that gets frequented by the public so often, the university does not present a good image to those visiting the ice arena.

We're probably at the bottom of the CCHA pile when it comes to arenas. Only ND is worse and that will change soon.

Have you ever been to Ferris State? The Ice Arena looks like a mansion in comparison. If you're from NW Ohio, let me just say it's like a suped-up version of Tam-O.

paluch needs to be canned the team has no faith in him and do not trust him when they step on the ice. The ice arena needs renovated but we will see that no time soon. I would just like to see a coaching change to upstart the program again, and if the program gets shut down i will be very dissapointed while we waste time with mens bball and baseball being the disaster they are. The basketball teams cant even fill anderson and will struggle with attendance even with a new arena. Start giving the teams that have the talent what they deserve, atleast hockey competes in a competitive conference.

Agreed with the rest of your post, but men's basketball is a disaster?! Have you even paid attention to the team? They are 13-9, 6-3 in the MAC and has won 5 straight. You must be talking about Toledo.
