The search begins....
Re: The search begins....
Supposedly Cornell assistant (and former Ohio State assistant) Casey Jones was the runner up to Paluch during the last search. Wonder if he's involved again?

This "shotgun" interview approach leads me to believe that Williams is the leading candidate.Falcon Commander wrote:from the Sentinel . . .
None of the candidates are expected to have a second interview, Knavel said.

Hmmm. . . . curious
If not, the candidate is either a homerun or this was a p!ss poor hiring process.

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. From the university job searches my wife has been a part of, I'd say that a single campus interview is pretty typical. These aren't people who are driving across town to interview. It's expensive (and time consuming for all parties) to fly candidates in and interview them. Unless there were a couple candidates who absolutely tied in everybody's minds I wouldn't expect to see additional rounds of on-campus interviews.Rightupinthere wrote: This "shotgun" interview approach leads me to believe that Williams is the leading candidate.

There is also the time factor. We are probably interviewing many of the exact same people as Western and OSU. If we take too long we could end up with our third choice. I wonder if Williams has applied for those jobs as career insurance?

A bowl game is pretty much just like any other game, just with a bigger payday. A championship is for a lifetime!rood wrote: You mean like football coaches wait until after their bowl games to take a new job?
Waiting two weeks from now tells me that they want to talk to coaches that are in the Frozen Four. There are quite a few with ties to BG this year, but seeing as how that's not a requirement it seems that it's anybody's guess right now.
3 out of the 4 teams have coaches with BG ties:
RIT: Wayne Wilson, Brian Hills
BC: Jerry York, Mike Cavanaugh
Wisconsin: Kevin Patrick
I seriously doubt Jerry will comeback to BG. Kevin Patrick is going to be the head coach of an expansion USHL team in Muskegeon. Wayne Wilson is the coach that has led RIT from Div III all the way to the Frozen Four in 5 years, without any athletic scholarships. He's a very successful coach, but is the pull of his alma mater great enough for him to consider leaving (Jerry graduated from BC). Brian Hills and Mike Cavanaugh seem to be the most obvious of the coaches that will be there. Both are top assistants and very well could be ready to make the jump to head coach.
Having said all that, I agree with FF!
Regardless of who the coach is, I hope he will receive the full support of all the fans, alumni, and administrators to keep this program moving forward.Falcon Fanatic wrote:WE WANT WILLY!! WE WANT WILLY!! WE WANT WILLY!! WE WANT WILLY!!

Re: The search begins....
Waiting two weeks to announce the new coach may mean that they have already chosen and want to hire a coach who is involved in the frozen four but they aren't going to put the search on hold in hopes that they can talk to someone two weeks from now. The urgency of hiring who they want is too pressing to risk losing the current top choice in the hopes that someone might be a better choice. Being in the Frozen Four isn't going to keep anyone (even Wayne Wilson) from applying and interviewing for the job if they really want it.pdt1081 wrote:A bowl game is pretty much just like any other game, just with a bigger payday. My goodness.......... If that's the way he thought I'm glad he didn't accept it.
Obviously their not interviewing anyone through the rumor mill. With Williams saying he hasn't been offered the job as of sunday makes me believe they are going a different direction. What a shame.........

Re: The search begins....
Emerson is an interesting rumor but I'm sure it's just that. I can almost guarantee he's making more for the Kings than he would here. I would imagine we'd over someone no more than $90k to coach here.A name like that probably comes up in hopes a hire like that would kickstart fundraising.
I would imagine that the new "depth" chart would be:
1) Newton
2) Hills
3) Williams
I just can't see Markell being on anyone's short list. He was given endless resources at OSU and couldn't compete. What would he do here which is in the bottom 10% of budgets for hockey.
Regarding Willy:
I think I've made it pretty clear that Dennis deserves a chance to keep things going. No one is more "BG" than Willy and the strides we made last season we're extremely impressive. Worst case scenario sees Willy getting passed over for the job and staying on as our associate head coach to help with the transition to a new bench boss.
Does anybody happen to know who is on the hiring committee?

Re: The search begins....
As far as the coaching search goes I have a feeling things will be cleared up within the next day or two considering the frozen four is over now I think the Ath Dept has figured it out. As far as my personal opinion goes, I do not believe Williams will be the coach here next year. I may be wrong but I feel they would not have waited till the frozen four was finished if he was the clear cut answer to the program. Considering they waited, I see a whole new staff in here next year.

There's no proof that this was one of Leaman's reasons, if indeed he rejected the job. It's all speculation on Kevin Gordon's part until proven otherwise.Tricky_Falcon wrote:He rejected it because the league is too tough? Who are we interviewing?
