This is what people should be rallying around. If you can go to the outdoor game great. If you choose not to for whatever reason, that's fine too. Just listen at home and cheer for the Falcons just as you would any other game. I don't subscribe to the theory that you're any more or less of a fan based on a decision to attend or not to attend one game.

By the way, thank you Freddie for looking up my posting history in the hockey forum. It is true that I do not post in this section all too often. I'm a Falcon football fan first and foremost. Football season is done now, so now I'm looking at the other sports. I usually catch around 5 hockey games a year, all at home, but apparently I'm not a fan. I apologize for not having season tickets.

What I'm saying is I fall into the category of fans that would go to a game to watch a hockey game. Heck, when I go to any sporting event it's to watch the sport. The "event" atmosphere is of no interest to me, therefore this outdoor event is lost on me. It's a novelty, but not something I would be interested in. I don't go to concerts because I want to be able to see and hear what's going on. I won't be going to this hockey game for those same reasons. I will, however, be at some home hockey games this year cheering as I always do--you know, being a "hockey fan". Freddie...who's he? Nobody!

I am so pumped to get to this game...never been to an outdoor game and this team is going places. My son Jake said he thinks BG can make it to the Frozen Four. I ask why not? GO FALCONS!

Well, I guess I will be there. A friend of mine had an extra ticket, so I'm going. Now I'll get to see if I was being too critical or if my criticism was well-judged. If nothing else, I'm looking forward to watching BG win this hockey game.

I wandered around 5/3 during the open skate and the seats won't be great for most but the environment around the stadium will be great (they are finally getting the idea around the park on a nightly basis which includes an open skate night). My hope is the team enjoys it and the people that come out for the event consider coming to BG for a regular game. How could the athletic department pass on the opportunity? It will be 7-8 years before they rip out the turf at 5/3 and consider doing this again.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.

Nothing like a little 100% chance of wintery mix for the outdoor game. Bring your umbrella.

I was seriously considering going, but I'm going to pass. I just can't get excited for an Atlantic Hockey opponent and then the potential of bad weather. I'm sure the staff tried to get a better opponent, but it is just unacceptable to have Robert Morris as the team coming in for an event like this. I don't know what the financial agreement is for this event with the Mud Hens/walleye, but it would be nice to see BGSU Hockey actually make some money. Hopefully we at least get the second half off to a good start.

Have you looked at Robert Morris this season? I'm sure when this game was scheduled the thought that it could be as important as it is wasn't even considered. Robert Morris was a mid-level Atantic Hockey team with no potential to draw to the Ice Arena. Move the game to Toledo and outdoors and the novelty will draw a good number on paper.

Now, Robert Morris is 12-3-3 on the season, with the second highest scoring offense (GPG) in the NCAA. Granted, they are 21st in the PWR because of the SOS that comes from playing in Atlantic Hockey, but they are not a team to be overlooked. There is a lot riding on the games this weekend. I hate to think how the weather can affect the outcome Saturday.

I am aware that Robert Morris is having a nice season and will likely win Atlantic Hockey and be in the NCAA tournament. They just don't excite me personally, and I know that they aren't bringing in that borderline hockey fan in NW Ohio. There are teams that matter in college hockey and teams that don't. We are gradually making our way into the teams that matter category, but Atlantic Hockey teams are filled with below average players. Obviously there are some good players, but the great majority weren't offered scholarships by teams in the Big 10, NCHC, ECAC, Hockey East, or even the WCHA, and that is why they play in Atlantic Hockey. I don't care what they are ranked. Robert Morris has a little more than half the scholarships that BG does. There really is no excuse to not sweep.

On your list you forgot to mention that Robert Morris has also played two games since Christmas. BG hasn't played in 4 weeks. There's a reason the games are played on ice. Although, with Saturday's forecast it sounds possible they could be playing on a swimming pool.

A swimming pool could be very accurate, unfortunately. This morning, they are calling for rain all day....UGH! :vom: ](*,) So disappointing, as this could have been a very exciting and fun atmosphere.

BTW, sorry if it was already mentioned, but Mike Pikul's ('84 Captain) son, Andrew is a goalie on the Robert Morris team! Wonder who they're rooting for? :-D

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

The Walleye are claiming their game will go on no matter the weather. If they play in the rain, the puck will not move very well on the ice. It will be a physically brutal game. It'll probably end up looking a like a PeeWee game with all the players bunched up around the puck hacking away.

At 36 degrees and rain all day and at times heavy this game will lack anything similar to a home hockey game. Those that have already purchased are not going to want to sit in this mess of weather.

I'm eating my tickets and going to purchase the video feed, if available.
