About dead on there...it seems like the last couple weeks the intensity hasn't been the same at times. We need to get that hungry attitude back.jbakerifm wrote:Quickly approaching do or die time. Either they start to play with intensity every night or accept a mediocre season. Which would be a shame, given where they are at right now.

2 wins in the last 7 games...not looking too hot. Let's snap this cold streak and finish the season out strong. These 4 games against Ferris will mean a lot.
Bring back the glory!
Re: Sat at BSU...
Its a super young team. I almost wonder if they need to go with the super aggressive gameplan (similar to last saturday) with the forecheck constantly pushing etc from here on out to help boost the intensity. I know coaches hate to do that, but if it kept the team from getting to the point where they were on the outside looking in it'd probably be worth it.
Re: Sat at BSU...
2 wins in 7 games sounds horrible. But when you break it down to 2-3-2 in those 7 games, and 3-3-2 in 8 games because why wouldn't you include an entire weekend series in your "streaks?" It's hardly cause to sound an alarm. They've played a lot of hockey and have a lot yet to play. 20 games in 10 weeks is torture when you consider school work has to be done as well. Even with a loss and a tie this weekend, BG moved UP in the pairwise (7th-6th). That says a heck of a lot about the team that they just played. The level of play/execution/etc Friday night needs to be addressed, but it's hardly cause for any kind of alarm. This is a tough as nails conference. Many teams are happy to not be playing in it because of the level of competition it offers.BGhockeyfan94 wrote:2 wins in the last 7 games...not looking too hot. No quibbles with the strength of the WCHA, without a doubt a hugely under rated conference.
I disagree that there is no cause for alarm though. This team has had trouble all season with intensity level and showing up to play. Friday night game vs Mankato, last Friday vs LSSU, and many others this season. Even vs OSU at home, Tate single handedly kept them in the game, the rest of the guys hardly showed up. All of those teams we can clearly compete with, even dominate, but not with a half hearted effort.
If they can't be more consistent itll be impossible to have a good showing in the final five, much less make The NCAA's.
Maybe its just the hallmark of a young team, but as I said above it'd be shame to waste the good season so far if they can't get it sorted out. There's no guarantee we'll have all those young guys for four years (yes I'm already worrying about defections over the summer) so strike while the iron is hot.

Why do you think there will be defections this summer???? Why in the world would you even begin to entertain a thought like this???jbakerifm wrote: There's no guarantee we'll have all those young guys for four years (yes I'm already worrying about defections over the summer) so strike while the iron is hot.
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Haha sorry. But now ive got someone else worrying along with me!
I actually don't think we have anyone who really should bolt, but it certainly happens sometimes (see last spring and summer). I'd say Dufour's defense and all around game has a ways to go, although they have a habit of dangling contracts in front of guys with a scoring touch.
Friedman still could use some bulking up and work on channeling some of his fire into big hits and goals rather than penalties. I DO think his defensive ability is really understated by the media though.
Don't see anyone else really likely to go, but who knows.

Carpenter graduated and chose to move on. Yes, he could've started his graduate degree and played one more year but he didn't.jbakerifm wrote: I actually don't think we have anyone who really should bolt, but it certainly happens sometimes (see last spring and summer).
Freibergs was facing possible NCAA charges due to his issues in the Olympics. He was planning on coming back but it didn't look as if he was going to beat the charges.
I hardly call that bolting but, hey, you can call it whatever you like.
