Well that sucks. Not a great game for Nell. Big breakdown by Mingo at the end. 1st period woes definately killed us tonight.

Anyone here make the trip to Big Rapids? I was listening to the radio feed for both games, and I was surprised that I couldn't hear the student section or fans at all (except the one funny drunk guy who hated the refs). I did see one picture of a half empty student section, but it might have been pre-game. Can anyone explain what was going on? Ferris has had one of the best atmospheres in all of college hockey the last few years.

The game was a sellout. Many people were late getting to their seat due to posing for photos with Star Wars characters in the hallway.
Had there been an ambient crowd mike where we were seated, in the Ferris end of the rink, you would have enjoyed continuous screeching from the rugrats crawling around there.

Regarding the radio, I listened to the Ferris broadcast Friday and was surprised at the lack of crowd noise. The announcers did't bother me, and they weren't homers, unlike the Bemidji guys two weeks ago. Saturday I listened to Evan and heard lots of crowd noise, and the loud guy. I wonder if the Ferris fans think he's a quirky-but-lovable guy or a complete a-hole.

What was the deal with the checking the goalie penalty? From what Evan said, it sounded as if Motte engaged our guy, but we took the penalty. I think the rule is the goalie is checkable if he's outside the rectangle formed by the face-off spots and end boards.

Speaking of goalies, (my continuing refrain) why do ours continue to play the puck outside the net? They're not good at it. Or worse than not good at it.

The goaltender interference penalty was right behind the net. Berkle was almost to the puck (beat the D-man) when Motte made the decision he wanted to play defenseman. They made it to the puck at the same time, as Motte retreated to the front of the net he went down. No way was it goaltender interference.

Speaking of interference, how much can one team run and not get called for it? Seems like Ferris's whole gameplan revolved around it.
