When we miss the NCAA's by .002 THIS year, we'll look back to Sunday's loss to Clarkson

Or maybe the team isn't as good as their record indicated and they beat a lot of bad opponents. As long as the team has a healthy Nell they have a chance to win the WCHA tournament...that's all that really matters

When the TEAM puts forth their best effort, NOBODY will beat them.apollo wrote:Or maybe the team isn't as good as their record indicated and they beat a lot of bad opponents. As long as the team has a healthy Nell they have a chance to win the WCHA tournament...that's all that really matters

I think it's fair to say we could beat anyone in the country if we play our best game....I do not think we can consistently beat top 30 teams, but certainly we could win the occasional game. If we played North Dakota or Boston U 10 times we could probably beat them 2 or 3 of those games, I definitely think that's realistic.pdt1081 wrote:When the TEAM puts forth their best effort, NOBODY will beat them.apollo wrote:Or maybe the team isn't as good as their record indicated and they beat a lot of bad opponents. Our goalies are not good puck handlers and should improve, which they haven't, or stay in the crease.pdt1081 wrote: ... 30 seconds of the major to kill and BG got lazy with the puck behind their own net. ...
Re: Clarkson
The constant slow starts and occasional lack of effort are so baffling and the last thing between above average and great. The talent gap that used to exist is almost all gone. But fighting through that last hurdle is really tough and I don't really know that it can be forced. Obviously there is plenty of intensity from the top.

Sounds like the Red Wings.jbakerifm wrote:The constant slow starts and occasional lack of effort are so baffling and the last thing between above average and great. I agree that I think BG this year has been overrated, the pollsters are finally starting to take note. The WCHA is down big time this year and the non-conference slate has turned out to be extremely weak. Not a good combination for the team, coupled with their on again, off again efforts.

It's time for the C, the A's and all the upperclassmen to step up. What the team doesn't need is more sermons from the coach.

I agree that Berge could probably keep things a bit more "in-house" when it comes to the criticisms, but ultimately if he and the players want this to be a top program again, there's going to be public criticism.bgbill wrote:It's time for the C, the A's and all the upperclassmen to step up. Re: Clarkson
I'm OK with what Berge says in his pressers, I just think the players need to communicate with each other on and off the ice.

I've never heard him say anything i thought was out of line regarding players. It's clear he was frustrated this week though, not that I blame him for being frustrated. Went through the process they going through right now in college (albeit in a different sport) and it is an incredibly difficult, frustrating, downright maddening whether playing or coaching. The good news is, there's still plenty of time for this team to achieve their goals, home playoff series/conference title/NCAA berth. Just hit a rough patch this week.
