Week 9 results are in. kckrieg84 won the week with a total score of 22 points followed by SweenyHawks and Soulbeaver with 21 each. SweenyHawks and WiHuskiesFan nailed the bonus this week with a guess of 16 PPGs, SHGs, and ENGs. SweenyHawks bonus pick has boosted him into a first place tie with mbenecke who had been alone at the top of the leaderboard for quite a while. New sheriff in town. At the other end of the scale we have 4 contestants within 5 points of that last playoff spot currently held by Birds of a Feather. Plenty of games left.

Governor's Cup; bonus is SOGs for the weekend.

I'm assuming you'll take my 2nd submission this week. I misread the bonus question and guessed 400 because I thought it was total across all 8 games, not just the 2 Alaskan meetings. My bad!

LOL. I was about to PM you with "Huh? 400 SOGs for two AK teams? Maybe for an entire season..."

You're good with 102.

Week 10 results: Mich Tech 64 won with week with a total score of 32 points and moves from 18th to 12th in the standings. What's remarkable is that in addition to pocketing 5 bonus points, Mich Tech 64 correctly guessed the winner of all 10 games this week! Stick tap for that move. Speaking of pocketing bonus points, crossjcek and GoNanooks correctly guessed 106 SOGs in the Alaska Governor's Cup this weekend and picked up an additional 10 points. At the top of the leaderboard, both first place contestants ended up picking the exact same teams for all 10 games this week. However, mbenecke's clutch bonus picking has allowed him to open up a 6 point lead over SweenyHawksHockey who still leads in the race for the Mason Cup. They say true champions will find a way to win. We'll see about that.

No bonus this week.

Week 11 saw seven co-winners correctly pick the home team to sweep all 8 games. Shout out to mbenecke, SweeneyHawksHockey, TalonsUpPuckDown, Birds of a feather, potternmu, Laker Dude, and USCHO Sean for your 23 point week.

Week 12 is on tap with a couple of holiday tournaments after the Christmas break. With two WCHA teams in the GLI I've split the second round picks into the various games that could result after the first round. Select winners for all the combinations and I'll use only the game(s) that are actually played. Hopefully this isn't too confusing.

Happy Holidays everyone!

We still have the GLI games coming up to close out week 12 but since the schedule waits for no holiday tournament here are the links for week 13 (I'll post week 12 results after the GLI). Two WCHA teams are in the Vegas invitational so once again I've split up the possible second round game combinations. Pick all the games, I'll only use the games that are played.

GLI results are now in, the Week 12 tri-winners are SweenyHawksHockey, beaverhockeyfan, and Laker Dude who each pocketed 24 points. Well done! In the battle for first place, Miami State's SweenyHawksHockey and that BG Bleacher Creature mbenecke were tied going into tonight's GLI final. You can guess how it turned out -- the Miami State guy picks BG to win, the BG guy picks Tech to win. So, for the first time since Week 3, mbenecke is no longer atop the leader board. Due to BG's GLI championship win tonight, SweenyHawksHockey has taken over the lead in the standings!

Week 13 winners are TalonsUpPuckDown, puckdude40, Mich Tech 64, potternum, and manurespreader who each posted 26 points to close out the holiday tournaments. mbenecke had a good week and powered his way back into first place with a 25 point showing while Soulbeaver has quietly moved into striking distance of the lead.

Bonus is back this week and is here to stay through the rest of the season.

Now that we’re into the second half of the season it’s time to talk playoffs. Thanks go to potternmu for starting the playoff concept last year. As mentioned previously, we'll have 3 awards:
o McNaughton Cup - Goes to the regular season champion as determined by total points - currently mbenecke
o Mason Cup - Goes to the player with the highest points percentage (based solely on picks) during the regular season - currently SweeneyHawksHockey
o Broadmoor Trophy - Goes to the playoff champion

Playoff Seeding
Top 16 make the playoffs. Snake seeding for bracket pairings (1 vs. 16, 2 vs. 15, etc.) with seeding determined in the following manner based on regular season results:
1) Total Points (including bonus)
2) Points (excluding bonus)
3) Total Points earned during the final 2 (or 3, or 4, or…) weeks of the WCHA regular season including bonuses until the tie is broken. Basically the “hotter” player down the stretch is favored.

Playoff Rounds
o First round will consist of the Friday and Saturday WCHA Quarterfinal playoff games (March 2-3) with bonuses (no Sunday games, 8 games total).
o Quarterfinals will consist of the Friday, March 9 WCHA Semifinal playoff games with bonuses (2 games total).
o Semifinals will consist of the Saturday, March 10 WCHA Semifinal playoff games (2 games total).
o The championship will be based on the outcome of the WCHA Championship game on March 17 plus bonuses.

Scoring
o Same as the regular season, other than games won’t end in a tie so 3 pts for a win, 0 pts for a loss.
o 2-3 bonus questions for each round worth 2-5 points.
o In all cases, ties go to the higher seed.

Good luck and bring home the hardware!

Another big week for points! potternmu won the week with 29 points while SweeneyHawksHockey's 23 point performance catapulted him past mbenecke and into the lead in the hunt for the McNaughton Cup. BGSURICK correctly guessed 54 SOGs for the weekend and pocketed an additional 10 bonus points. Roll Along, Rick!! beaverhockeyfan currently clings to a 4 point lead over Laker Dude and Birds of a Feather for the last playoff spot. Six weeks left -- plenty of points out there for the taking. Anybody's ball game.

Slight change in the bonus this week. If it's confusing, post your question and I'll respond.

Note: The Saturday Bemidji/North Dakota ended in a tie and the score sheet showed no 3-on-3 or shootout. If this is correct, no points are awarded for that game. If I have the results wrong, let me know an I'll update for next week.

The winner of week 15 was BGSURICK who posted 37 points this week and put himself back in the hunt for the final playoff spot. Speaking of final playoff spot, Laker Dude holds a slight edge over UAFIceAngel via tiebreaker #2 with Birds of a feather lurking only one point back. Minnesota State won both OOC games scoring the GWG at the 6:14 mark of the second period (Pick 'Em time of 26:14) on Saturday and at the 17:24 mark of the second period (37:24) Tuesday. According to Excel, the average GWG time was 31:49 which when rounded down to 31 minutes means BGSURICK was the only player to collect all 10 bonus points this week. Only 10 players picked up at least 1 bonus point. This one was a toughie.

Kudos also go out to Soulbeaver who correctly picked the winners of all 10 games this week. Pick 'Em greatness in action.

The week 16 winner, with a total of 28 points, was giwan. With 4 weeks and 36 games remaining, there are 10 players fighting for those last few playoff spots. At the other end of the standings, there’s a three way dogfight between SweeneyHawksHockey, mbenecke, and Soulbeaver for both the McNaughton Cup and the Mason Cup.

By my count there were 80 penalties called this weekend (that Tech-Ferris series was a real heavyweight bout) with giwan being the only player collecting all 10 bonus points.

This week there will still be 10 bonus points available but there’s a twist. Good luck!

GoNanooks was the week 17 winner with 27 points. For the tri-bonus, there were 23 goals scored by the visiting team, 21 PP and SH goals, and 2 one-goal games. <3_Blizzard, beaverhockeyfan, BGFan, GoNanooks, and USCHO Sean each pocketed 6 bonus points. 21 participants earned at least one bonus point this week.

There are three weeks/26 games left in the regular season. Regular 10-point bonus this week.

Jack Hittinger, WCHA beat writer for USCHO.com, was the week 18 co-winner with 24 points. Jack correctly picked the winner of all 8 games. Congrats, Jack! There were 431 SOGs across all 8 games this week. By guessing 432 SOGs and pocketing 9 bonus points, TalonsUpPuckDown overcame some “challenged” picking this week (as in “what was I thinking?”) to join Jack as this week’s co-winner. BGFan (1), John J. MacInnes (3), and Soulbeaver (3) were the only other players to pick up bonus points this week.

Soulbeaver trails SweeneyHawksHockey by only 1 game in the race for the Mason Cup. Still a 3-way fight between these two and mbenecke for the McNaughton. Looks like 10 are in the hunt for those final few playoff spots.

Two weeks left. Eight games and another 10-point bonus on tap for week 19. Reminder there are two Thursday night games this week including our trip to Anchorage.
