And Tech fans are praising the coach for sticking up for the players. They felt ASU was targeting some of their players near the end of the game..... Does that sound familiar to anyone?
I did some final crunches. And BG still has a chance. The most obvious chance is to win the WCHA championship. However, I found one scenario that would move BG up to number 14 going into the championship game with Minnesota state. A loss to Minnesota State would then drop them back down to #15, and you must finish in the top 15 because the Hockey Atlantic automatic bid will come from a team outside the top 16. Also of note, every team in the top 16 pairwise, and actually in the top 20 pairwise would finish with a winning record even with a sweep this weekend. So for hoping a top 16 team to have a losing overall record will not happen. The current Top 12 are locks as well as the Hockey Atlantic Champion.
After running numerous scenarios this is what I came up with.
- Omaha must get swept by Minn Duluth
- North Dakota must get swept by St. Cloud
- Minnesota must sweep Penn State. Easier said than done since Penn State just swept Minnesota last weekend.
- Northern Michigan need to lose one game in 1st round, and then lose to BG in the semi finals.
- BC need to lose in the first round of its tournament. It can win one game but must lose the other two.
- And BG must sweep Ferris State as well as beat Northern Michigan and face Minnesota State in the finals.
When all said and done BG will finish #15 in Pairwise. (being #16 team selected).
We got all of that. Of course the easiest way is just to win four straight games over the next two weeks.
