Ice Breaker Preview (10/11-12)
Re: Ice Breaker Preview (10/11-12)
Considering Miami got smoked last night, I’m not sure that first win is much to right home about. Western should be a decent test tonight.

Guys BG looks terrible this year. Ugly final two periods last night in that loss and then down 4-1 to Western tonight

Let’s not overreact....still plenty of games left. We still have a very good chance to finish in 3rd place this year.

Well ****. Can't take any losses to the Lilliputians in conference now.
Re: Ice Breaker Preview (10/11-12)
Third? We haven’t played a conference game yet lol but they looked like me asking a girl to dance in 8th grade, awkward and uncomfortable. Hopefully next weekend is the reset we need but this may hurt come tournament selection timeTommyG wrote:Let’s not overreact....still plenty of games left. Ugly weekend. New coaches, some key departures from last year, and some expectations can make things tough to start.
The longer the walk, the farther you crawl.

What shocked me again was just how lost they looked. We should have a pretty darn competitive team, so losing to RIT and then getting blown out by Western isn’t a good look.
To me there wasn’t enough breakouts, this team excels at odd man rushes putting the D on the back foot. And then the shooting was abysmal, no shots really had any umph on it. It was almost like they were just trying to get traffic in front of the goalie and tip it in

Expectations are always tough to meet when you’re trying to repeat a success that is rare for your program. The conference still sucks, we should be in the mix at the end. Likely finishing in 3rd place.

Someone refresh my memory: Does Coach Eigner want to play the same style of hockey that Berg did? If not, we could be seeing the pains of going through a transition to where he wants the team to be. I do think Miami is going through that this year, and it may be a couple seasons before they even begin to sniff .500

What the heck is indirect roughing?

Oh, ya know, it's a made up hockey penalty.BG84 wrote:What the heck is indirect roughing?
I was irate when I heard that call. Never once heard of it before, like the "indirect contact to the head" penalty from the past few years. If it's indirect, doesn't mean that it wasn't direct, and therefore shouldn't really be a penalty? I understand player safety, but hockey is a "man's game" for a reason. If you don't keep your head on a swivel, you're going to get hit.

BG generally plays a physical borderline chippy game. They have to make up for their lack of skill. You’re going to take some penalties with that style and that is okay. Generally the better teams in college hockey take penalties because they more aggressive and physical than below avg teams. The best teams are physical and skilled. BG is usually physical with just enough talent to score a few goals. We also draw a lot of penalties, so it is really a wash from a special teams standpoint. The refs are not out to get BG hockey.
