He is.

Though I do have a question. I realize the coolant was coming from the hole, but where was it really coming from? Meaning, how did it get there?

And no one started a Shegos cheer because I wasn't there to start one. ;) Damn methods classes are making me do homework. I haven't made it to a single game yet!

Smart guess...

Go cover a garden hose in ice, then drill so far into the ice so that you're not drilling through ice anymore. That should lead you to the answer.

Beyond that, I have no idea how those things work, though I'd assume from the dilemma it caused that it's a huge continuous series of pipes under the ice, not just individual pipes that can be shut off if something like this happens.

The problem with fixing it will be if they can fix it w/o melting the whole ice. I'm not sure if they would have to replace the whole paint job (circles, logos, advertisement, etc.) or not if that happens.

I believe that they were going to try to chip through the ice last night and down to the cement to get to the leak and mend it. If they have to bring someone in to fix it it could get rather costly.

We talked to the "girl with the mop" on the way out of the arena, and she said something about how the ice was thin at that part of the rink due to a bad paint job or something, so we need a new arena.

While there are certainly arguments for a new arena out there, I'm thinking that someone drilling a hole through a coolant line isn't one of them.

I saw a guy walking with a torch last night after the game. I assume they are going to try to weld the hole together.

Someone at the game asked me why they just didn't turn the coolant off. I laughed and asked if he'd ever see skates work on water.

All the ice was melted last night, it's down to the paint. Maybe while they're at it they'll update the center ice logo.

It gets melted every summer, so if the logo wasn't updated, it's not like you can say 'well, it's been there since 2000'. I don't know why it wasn't updated, but there you have it.

Last year they built the ice at the end of the summer, then for some reason that escapes me at the moment, they had to melt it in Sept and start all over again right before the season began (out here, this is, not BGSU). We asked about having to re-paint all the lines and the kid who does it goes, "Well I wasn't pleased with one of the logos I did, but I wasn't so unhappy with it I wanted another crack at it!" :)

Funniest line of the night:

"Anybody got a big tampon? Anybody?"

If you saw the color of the liquid this joke would be that much funnier.

It was bright pink. I don't know any female tampons holding back bright pink liquid. Just saying. :D

Thanks for the link! Nobody (with the possible exception of my employer) could argue that it was unworthy of the 30 minutes it took to read

to my knowledge, we've never had that problem at goggin, but that had to suck! my avatar has probably the coolest (no pun intended) glass shattering i've ever seen there when andy greene put dave steckel through the glass a couple seasons ago.

for general interest, since this is goggin's last year, they are doing a jersey auction throughout the season. i have to get my hands on one of these 1978 miami jerseys. i'd like to see them go retro...same with bg.

I'm not sure what you mean by update. They replace the ice every summer and put down new lines, circles, logos, and ads then. If you mean the logo with the outline around it, I doubt that they'll ever do that in the ice arena. I just don't think that that would look right on the ice with all of the other lines and stuff.
