Wasn't a goal by him already disallowed in that game because of an illegal stick? Or am I thinking of a different one?
I remember something like that happening. Like you, I'm not sure if it was that game or another one.

I do remember one of our goalies being put in the penalty box for too much curve on his stick. That happened down at the old OSU Ice Dink. I think it was Connell. Jerry Welsh threw a fit after we scored a few goals and made the ref check the goalie's stick. Anyone else remember that? I also remember one OSU game at BG that we won quite handily and Welsh was so angry that he made the team get on the bus in their gear (minus skates, of course) and go straight back to Columbus for a very late night practice! I think we played down there the next night. Can't remember the outcome of that game however.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

If memory serves me, in the U of m game Rob did have a goal that was disalowed. I do not know why, maybe because he knocked it down from above the goal with his hand. Not sure who was the ref that night, obviously a U of scUM grad.

How about the night I was sitting there trying to watch a game ( not U of M )
and this da-- linesman was in the way. Berenson? Berenson? where have I heard that name? His son was a linesmen in the CCHA for a while.

BG vs Wisconsin Oct 1982, Nick Bandescu gets his leg broken, out for the year. With his speed we might have won that game at JLA against MSU, and another National Championship. I have heard that the person that checked Nick was named Chelios - not sure about that fact.

What a great thread, it's fun to relive these memories as people describe them.. a lot has been covered, but I'll see what I've got

~the home game against ND last year when the entire arena booo-ed Wes O'Neill every time he touched the puck. that really affected him too.

~listening to a home game in 96 against scUM in the 90's where we pulled out a 6-5 win on a night we were really overmatched. scUM had John Madden, Brendan Morrison, Jason Botterill, Marty Turco and Bill Muckalt on the ice together that game. all are NHLers now. the crowd was absolutely nuts.

~listening to any game called by Bartt Davis. also Tom Glick as the PA

~random game we were behind, but my grandmother says "Can't we get a break and let one trickle in".. almost on cue, Martin Jiranek takes a shot from the redline, it goes off the post and in.

~being up on scUM 3-0 after the first up in yost a couple years ago (we won't talk about the 2nd & 3rd..)

~the brawl with OSU during the handshake was epic.

~Angelo Libertucci's hair.

~Johnathon Matsumoto dekes the pants off of the St. Lawerence defender and puts one in off the cross bar last year.

~watching Austin DeLuis taking on guys twice his size. on the same note, watch Ian Duncan destroy people was great.

You were there, too? I remember walking through the concourse with my father, who was seeing his first college hockey game ever that night, and whispering to him (literally): "you don't walk into Yost and go up 3-0" while we were both getting glares from the Michigan faithful. The 2nd and 3rd, unfortunately, fulfilled my prophecy.

Yeah. I called my dad after the first sounding as sad as I could... "Yeah, it's 3-0 after the first, it's been a completely one sided game, just like we expected. Breakaways, short handed, power play goals.. the usual." We talked about other stuff for a few minutes, then as I was about to hang up. "Oh yeah, did I mention WE are up 3-0?" He about passed out with excitement. It was too good to be true though...

I'm kind of depressed I missed all of those moments in legendary BGSU hockey since I'm a freshman this year. I love the sport and I always have (being that I'm a RedWings fan) and I love the BGSU team. So I'd have to say that my favorite moment for me as a freshman would be our opening actual game of this year against UCONN. The student section was alive, the players were alive, and we won! So that was a great first actual hockey game at BGSU for me.

What did we do? I can't remember?

I believe in 97 Beat Mich 5-4. I remember we kept taking the lead, but the bastards kept tying it up, but near the end of the third we scored our fifth goal and the Ice Arena errupted. I actually bruised my legs from jumping up and down and hitting the seats.

6 of us went to the Joe for the CCHA tourney somehow we got tickets in the upper upper section and no one was around us for a good 30 rows.

I beleive Ferris State had a play named Epps and I started chanting Eeps and it too off from there.

Taunting John Madden for three periods and then he scored, and skated over towards section E and yelled. We flipped him off, but I realized that they could hear us and we could effect the game.

Going to games 4 hours early so we could get a decent seat for the Michigan games. A lot of Ay Ziggy Zoomba, Don't give a "care" about the whole state of Mich. song, and just general fun hatred of the bastards from AA.

I don't know why, but section E liked Jason Piwko he was the third string goalie behind Savard and Petrie. In blow outs or we were getting plown out we would start chanting Piwko, finally Coach Buddy put him in. Section E went nuts. Every time the puck came near him we would chant Piwko as if he was Patrick Roy in goal. Stupid little things that made BGSU hockey great.

I remember the crowd yelling "Can Piwko come out and play?" And earlier than that, "Can Albitz come out and play?"

Any reference to Piwko still makes me smile. That's a good guy.

He comes back almost every year for the golf outing and donates a lot of prizes. Works for Heineken in Chicago, I believe.
