unfortunately the coach won't have to bench the repeat offender. Kantola will be lucky to play before the playoffs.

Just a dumb penalty. As it was described on the radio, the Miami player was facing the boards and Kantola hit him from behind.
If you see the name on the back, DO NOT CHECK.

I was at the game too. I'll have to renew my membership Marta before the season is up so I can partake in some intermission beverages
I don't know hockey as well as most here, but I thought the team played one heckuva game. This was my first of the season but man Cepis can flat out FLY. Both of his goals were great skating to get breaks and then finishing with good shots.
Spratt played really well too. That Miami team can really stick handle and they made some real nice plays to get one on one opportunities with Spratt and he was up to the task on all but one of them.
The hit that got our guy ejected was pretty flagrant. Not only was the Miami player's back to the wall, but he was a couple feet out from the wall as well. Our guy hit him and just drove him all the way into the boards...pretty poor decision. As it was my first game, I didn't realize that this was his second ejection of the season...he should try to get his head on straight. Especially since the goal he scored was one helluva shot...seems as though he could be valuable.
All told this was a fantastic win for the team; real glad I made the trip out to watch them play.

I was all of about two panes of glass away from the hit. Kantola caught up to the player at about the goal line. Both players hit the glass at the same time. That means it was not a check from behind. If anything, 2 minutes for boarding at most. The Miami player didn't really even try to stop before hitting the boards. No way should it have been a major penalty. When they hit the glass, the Miami player tried to brace himself. That's why he got hurt.BGDrew wrote:Just a dumb penalty. Several players on the team told me almost exactly what you said, including that the Miami player said he turned right before they hit the boards. This was nothing like Kantola's previous infraction, not even close. His previous suspension was deserved, but I do not believe that he should get one this time. I surely hope they review the tapes before handing out suspensions...pdt1081 wrote:I was all of about two panes of glass away from the hit. Kantola caught up to the player at about the goal line. Getting back to the game....IT WAS FREAKIN' AWESOME!!! Hard work up and down the ice all night kept Miami off their game. Spratt was phenomenal. I was down by the glass for Miami's second goal...that was a sniper shot that no one would have stopped. Make no mistake, we will NOT see the same Miami team tomorrow night. It will be a totally different game and we will have to work just as hard, if not harder tomorrow night to get the sweep!!! Are we capable of doing it? You bet your AZZ we are!!!!! We can hang with any team in the country when we play OUR game!!
GO FALCONS!!!
SWEEEEEEEEEEEP DUH REDSKINHAWKS!!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

The team was totally AWESOME. The baby birds (red hawks & FALCONS are family- just not this wkend) came in feeling they had this game won. Arriving early I heard & saw mu players making fun of the team picture in the east hallway by the lockerrooms---things like Cepis being too little (see 2 goals) Jimmy's hair (see BiG WIN) and how did we have so many All- Americans. Enrico even interrupted a conversation on the way to an interview in the back hall.
BG skated extremely well, fought for pucks & just wanted it more,
Cantola has a rep so anything close will get him the heave ho no see him for Sat & first game @ the Soo---maybe more
FF has it right Sat game will be chippy & no holds barred especially if same crew is showing stripes
See you there What a way to begin '08

You should have pointed out the 1984 NCAA title banner out to them. BG may be down, but we've still got more tradition in our little toe than they can dream of. I'm glad Cepis taught them a lesson...or two.hockeysue wrote:...and how did we have so many All- Americans.

from what i've heard a lot of trash talk was done between the fans. (thats what i like too hear.) Miami is one of those teams that we can bring up having winning past. I always made fun of the fact that one of Miami's best player of all time couldn't even spell his first name right. WHO SPELLS KEVIN WITH A Y? A guess you'll get that from those from your Nations capital.
Dave Ellett is a hero. A Bowling Green Falcon and a Former Jet and Maple Leaf. What more can a Winnipegger ask for.

i left last night's game impressed with bg. the team looked super fast, competitive and really outworked us. as for the trash talk between fans, i didn't notice any of that and i was in the middle of the miami section. and, the players goofing on bg doesn't sound like rico's bunch who are generally a very classy group but i'll take you at your word.
we have played lackluster hockey for three straight games. we are settling for outside shots even on the power play that are, for the most part, being blocked. i would suggest the falcons blocked well over 10 shots last night which is a testament to their work ethic. i really doubt miami came into the game thinking they would walk through and get a W considering their struggle last week against st. cloud and osu at the schott cave. we have to realize that we may have 7 nhl draft picks or whatever the number is, but that we still have to play inspired - especially when they will get the opponent's best shot every time.
i have to admit, i thought the hit on eichenlaub was pretty serious. what's worse, is that he appeared to be quite injured. regardless of the legality, and not to speculate, but it seems we've probably lost one of our top 6 defenseman.
most miami fans get the bg history and respect the program. if they didn't before last night, they do now. i certainly have always understood because i saw guys like emerson and holzinger come to goggin around the time that i was in school. at the same time, the "overrated" chant is kind of lame, we are 18-3 after all, and there were several bg fans who yelled "overrated" at us as we left the building, so let's not be too hard on the miami folk. we all know fans are fans.
unfortunately, i can't make tonight's game, but i will try to listen.
thanks to the gentleman (i forgot his screen name) who stopped me in the tunnel before the game and spent a good 5 minutes talking hockey with me. cepis is fun to watch!

FINALLY
FALCON HOCKEY, clap clap clap clap clap, FALCON HOCKEY, clap clap clap clap clap, FALCON HOCKEY
What a big win. Now let's see if they can back it up with another great performance tonight. So many close calls in December, it feels good to get a victory over a great team. All I wanted for my birthday on Friday was a Falcon victory...

I would have been laughing out loud had I heard a BG fan yell over rated at the redskins. that is not the case by far. Miami has come a long, long long road to get where you are. You all flat out sucked for a long long time. You have to great pride in the program that has been built, and the history your writing. Hopefully your administration takes the time to notice that once the top is reach it needs to be funded well to stay thier (doubt that will be an issue).
BG has a Damn good team right now, but its going to take us some more time to reach where you are now, the win lastnight is continued proff that this teams chemistry is right and geting us back on track to do it.
My thoughts on tonights game...look for a very physical game from the drop and an even faster pace.
