tons of rinks around the world have them, and there are no issues.

Assuming they are installed with the locking hex nuts there's no reason at least one couldn't be installed in the northwest corner where the teams enter the ice. That area is off-limits to non-essential personnel (EMTs, Police, arena staff) during play and all you would need is to install another rope to block access to that area while play is going on.
