Interesting thought Drew.
Interesting indeed since I never said it.

You can't just keep firing coaches and expect the new guy to be the savior. I'll still go to games and support the team, but I'm not expecting CCHA titles. Miami is the exception, not the rule with mid major programs. They have an elite coach and a brand new rink, not a rink with new lights.
Things like this blow me away. Why can't we expect to win CCHA titles? Do you really think that we're that far away? Did you watch them play last year? Granted, we only won 5 games last year but that doesn't tell the whole story by a long shot.

Consider the following:

We played in 8 overtime games last year. Of those 8 we only lost 2. The rest went to a shoot out of which we won 5 of the 6. In my mind, those 8 games could have easily been wins, giving us 13.

Looking at the rest of the losses that DIDN'T go into OT, 5 were one goal losses and 5 were two goal losses. (Those are generally considered games that could have easily gone either way. Especially the 1 goal loses.)

Given all of this, then, we were "in" 23 of the games that we played last year (including the games that we won). That is, IMO, significantly more than in past seasons. I just don't think that we're that far away from being a good team and I believe that we have the coaching staff in place that will get us there (although I also believe that Willy could have eventually gotten us there also). I expect to win more than 5 games this season. Is .500 a possibility? Given last year's results I believe that it is and I also believe that it will continue to go up from there.

Winning 5 of 23 tells me the mental aspect of the game needs the most work. The talent is there, they just need to believe it themselves.

You are right! That was Dennis' biggest battle last year....overcoming the old habits of feeling more comfortable with losing that knowing how to over come it to win! He made decent strides with the team in that area, but there is much to do. I know that Bergeron will be working on that area (attitude, confidence, team building, etc...) from the recruiting stage onward!! It will be interesting to see how this team changes from the beginning of the year to the end.

GO HOCKEY!!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
