If you have ever read anything on the Michigan Tech USCHO board thread you'll find that Tech fans truly believe their guys skate around in white hats and white capes on the ice doing only good deeds wherever they go and when they are not on the ice they are saving stray animals and helping old ladies.......I think its compensation for the fact that they don't have a real D1 goalie on their roster, much less on this trip. The irony of the whole thing is Tech fans wanted a Ferris player suspended because of a hit last weekend.
Some serious Gold colored glasses over there.
I'm not defending McClain, as Drew said, he should not have confronted the MTU bench and their reaction to that was to be expected. However, that's Mitch, he's a gritty, pain in the @ss to play against. Spezia was just trying to stick up for the younger guys, like Johnson, that they felt some of the MTU players were trying to intimidate.
In the end that's hockey....that's what happens in a blow out game when one team is struggling and made a long bus trip to get to said beating.
I fully expect Tech to come out even harder early on tonight. They are depleted roster wise already with injuries and they desperately need to get an early lead and try to play from ahead, especially with their goaltending.

I have no opinion on what happened in the last few minutes last night, just wanted to layout the timeline.

Sorry Drew....it was gmartin that stated that. I understand that you have to be neutral on these things and I didn't mean to make it seem otherwise. My apology.gmartin wrote: McLain was the one whom instigated it. He was correct by going to the official and he should have let it end there but I could see he was talking smack to the bench

SATURDAY
End of 1, BG down 0-1. Shots are 10-7, BG.
Tech is out to hurt and trying to lure BG into a fight. One or two unsportmanlike penalties would settle this game down a lot.

Not taking care of business at Home.
Down 3 - 0, kiss that At-large opportunity out the window, unless there's an unbelievable comeback in the works.
ONLY way going to have to win three in a row on the road because we ain't finishing higher then 3rd.

Well it don't look good. BG picked up a 5 min major. Tech scored. BG down 3-0. Bad way for the Seniors to go out but we still have 1st round home playoffs.
With the loss tonight BG now has zero chance at Pairwise and can now just focus on winning the WCHA Championship.

Technically 2 out of 3 on the road and then the 1 game Championship on the road. And yes 3rd seed most likely with home series against Ferris or AH. Still 4 games left but At Large gone. Let's just hold onto the 3rd spot.

End of 2, BG down 0-3. Shots are 13-20, them.
Still no such thing as an unsportsmanlike penalty, with a lot of of unsportsmanlike activity taking place any time BG puts a little bit of pressure.

Nearly 4200 at the game tonight. Hopefully some will come back during tournament play.

It was an exciting first 5 minutes of the game! Everything went downhill after that.
Bring back the glory!

LSSU beat Bemidji. That helped us out quite a bit.

And we fail to play on consecutive nights again. That has been my biggest frustration this year and last. Why the hell do we look so good one night and so bad the next or the other way around. Is it conditioning, practice schedule, mental focus? If we are going to be a consistent force in college hockey again this MUST be addressed.

Up until last night BG swept back to back series so we are capable of putting together 2 straight wins. We won the GLI on back to back games. I had a feeling Tech would win last night.
Re: vs. Michigan Tech (2/2-2/3 - Orange Weekend)
Tech was trying to bait them into a fight. If they fell for it, Bergeron would have said they were undisciplined, yet he won't/doesn't send anything to the league about the officials. Real officials would have dealt out some unsportsmanlike penalties for the crap, not stood there and laughed it up with the players afterwards. As a player, I'd have a hard time motivating myself to play in a situation like that. Coach won't stand up for you, you stand up for yourself and you're "undisciplined." Or, just play the game out and look forward to having next week off. It's the Journey... wrote:And we fail to play on consecutive nights again. That has been my biggest frustration this year and last.
