Yeah, there's some bias for sure, but they're the only conference foe to beat the Mavs (twice at that) and have beaten BG three times. If they sweep LSSU this week I think it becomes a horse race of who makes the deepest and most impressive conference playoff run between them and BG.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 10:36 amLook where the people throwing them out there are from.mbenecke wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 9:48 am I'm curious - why does Bemidji get projected in the tournament (even over BG) so often? I know they kicked us around a few times this year, but they're also only 10-7-3 overall, including being swept by a poor NMU team and having a tie against a pitiful Ferris team. We're sitting here with 19 wins, playing in the same conference... I just don't understand how they would get a nod over us, when you consider that we went out and played Quinnipiac and challenged ourselves out of conference.

Re: WCHA Standings Update
Other games around the country don't have the WCHA in charge of them. BG plays a system that doesn't need adjusted to play outside the WCHA. It costs them at times and frustrates the players, but they stick to it. BG has a better chance for an NCAA Tournament win this season than Mankato does (there's a reason they have never won one at the D1 level). They just have to get there.TommyG wrote: ↑Mon Mar 01, 2021 10:39 pm I mean if you watch any other games around the country it’s quite obvious the pair wise are completely misleading this season. If BG hadn’t crapped the bed down the stretch it would have been a no brainer them being in. Just watching the games the last month, you can see we are not in the that top tier of teams, and outside of Mankato, neither is anyone else. It’s not even controversial, it’s just true. Doesn’t mean we couldn’t win a game in the Tournament and upset someone, but if regular non league games were played this year we wouldn’t even be in the discussion.

Bowling Green - 27 (0)
Michigan Tech - 26 (2)

If tomorrow goes into overtime then BG gets the #2 seed.

Bemidji can tie us, but we own the tiebreaker.
If LSSU drops one single point tomorrow night or this weekend in their single game against Ferris, we clinch the 2-seed.
Almost there!

Re: WCHA Standings Update
Just confirming this: if the game tonight simply goes to OT (regardless of winner), BG clinches the 2. If Bemidji is to win in regulation, BG clinches the 2. If LSSU wins in regulation, we’re rooting for a non-regulation win or outright loss for LSSU on Saturday night against Ferris.
So, here’s to Bemidji rising to the challenge tonight and forcing at least an OT result, if not winning outright in regulation.

Re: WCHA Standings Update
Updated standings to account for tie-breakers and range of seeding possibilities.
Maximized Standings: Seeding
Minnesota State - 39 (2) Locked #1
Lake Superior - 27 (2) 2-5
Bowling Green - 27 (0) 2-3
Bemidji State - 27 (3) 3-6
Michigan Tech - 26 (2) 3-5
Northern Michigan - 20 (0) 5-6
Huntsville - 14 (2) Locked #7
Ferris State - 6 (1) Locked #8
BG will earn the #2 seed if LSSU doesn't win their final two games in regulation, simple as that.

Re: WCHA Standings Update
I'm nervous about the game this afternoon. I watched last night's affair and it was honestly one of the most boring college hockey games I've ever seen. I think both teams had 18 shots through regulation. Since both these teams need points to clinch home ice I'm expecting another tight one.mbenecke wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 6:18 amJust confirming this: if the game tonight simply goes to OT (regardless of winner), BG clinches the 2. Kinda like both teams were playing to not lose? Bemidji is playing game number 4 in 7 days. If LSSU plays to win, they most likely will.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 12:46 pm

I'm keeping an eye on the game this evening. Really pulling hard for a game that goes to OT - we want LSSU to drop a point so we can earn the #2 slot, but it would also be nice if Bemidji didn't win the game, with us having to fight with them for an NCAA tournament bid.

Would be nice. Everyone I've talked to within the college hockey world has a hard on for Bemidji getting in over BG based on metrics.mbenecke wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 2:42 pm I'm keeping an eye on the game this evening. Re: WCHA Standings Update
Kinda. Just the usual WCHA slogfest IMO. Couple of players on each team have some talent and the rest are just meh.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 1:08 pmKinda like both teams were playing to not lose? Re: WCHA Standings Update
Bemidji just threw up all over themselves and went from tied 2-2 to down 4-2 in the span of 20 seconds.
8 minutes to go, and now on the kill... I don’t see it happening tonight.
Go Bulldogs - we need 1-20-1 Ferris State to steal a point from LSSU for us to get the 2, if this result holds.

Drawing NMU isn't the end of the world either. But not getting last change potentially in the semis could be a problem.mbenecke wrote: ↑Wed Mar 03, 2021 7:13 pm Bemidji just threw up all over themselves and went from tied 2-2 to down 4-2 in the span of 20 seconds.

For sure. I feel good about our first round chances, still.
Semifinal with LSSU will be challenging. They really kicked our butts last time around. Hoping we’re healthy and ready this time around - at least it’s only one game.

Lake Superior adds an empty netter to go up 5-2, and this one is over.
Root hard for Ferris on Saturday night.
