To clarify: the athletic department’s actions made it impossible for us to continue to cover the program in any meaningful way. We made the decision to shut it down after their actions necessitated it.
I woke up today to @BGSUHockey being suspended by Twitter. This comes a couple weeks after being told by the head SID our account could cause “brand confusion.”

Even though your site clearly had a disclaimer at the bottom that it wasn't directly affiliated with BGSU.BGDrew wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 3:07 pm To clarify: the athletic department’s actions made it impossible for us to continue to cover the program in any meaningful way. Did they have a problem with the name, or the whole operation in general? I can understand them not wanting to allow registered names and whatnot, but what about a generic name like Orange and Brown Hockey or something?BGDrew wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 3:07 pm To clarify: the athletic department’s actions made it impossible for us to continue to cover the program in any meaningful way. Even so, it's slimey that they're only deciding this now after all the years you've been doing this.
Re: 2021-2022 Season
I heard from a few people that there was some frustration that the site provided better coverage and exposure than the Sports Info department.
BGDrew would obviously have more insight, but I know there were at least a couple times where some of the site’s access was limited or restricted when Knavel was the head of sports info.
I do understand the twitter handle causing confusion, but not sure why that couldn’t just have been altered…I would think the department would appreciate any positive exposure the hockey program would get?

<sigh> This is depressing. It's not like the coverage was breaking bad on the program or the university.

Re: 2021-2022 Season
Never mind. I went to the site myself and saw the disclaimer at the bottom that said it was not affiliated with BGSU. However, there is a giant letter on the main page explaining why the site was being shut down. It sounds like it was a personal decision mixed with a difficulty to gain access (to the coaches, players, staff?) is almost impossible this year. So, is the story behind this that BGSUHockey.com has been blacklisted as a media outlet?footballguy51 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 19, 2021 1:14 pmIs that website University owned or is it a fan site?jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 1:28 pm So, the university is actively trying to shut down BGSUHockey.com, along with the associated Twitter account. Imagine if the Athletic Department spent as much effort on anything else as they did on trying to make that cringeworthy "Might Ducks Night" happen. Holy f^<{. Let's not do that again. When the "check of the game" is simply a movie clip of little kids badly acting like they are being knocked to the ice, please just stop.BGDrew wrote: ↑Thu Nov 18, 2021 3:07 pm To clarify: the athletic department’s actions made it impossible for us to continue to cover the program in any meaningful way. The Laker fans in attendance had to be like “WTF is going on?” Honestly, so was I. I still don’t get what this “promotion” was about.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 12:45 amImagine if the Athletic Department spent as much effort on anything else as they did on trying to make that cringeworthy "Might Ducks Night" happen. Coaches talks started up again before the game. The timing was a bit off. Doors opened at 6:30 and Eigner went on at 6:30 so there was a mad rush of people getting in. Then, after Ty was done, they kicked everyone out of the lounge so they could scan everyone’s pass. So because I had the passes, I left my beer on the table, told my dad to stay put, and walked out with a bunch of folks to get in line in the lobby. But “Clear the lounge!” has special meaning at Bowling Green, so before they scanned any passes, they kicked my dad and everyone else out.
I was amused at the entire episode-you gotta laugh at this. We’re all Falcon Club donors and it’s the same people every game who show up before hand. But hey, they got this new ticketing system and I guess they gotta use it. No surprise these are the same people who shut down Drew.

The movie night promotions are always gimmicky. This one was popular with the students parent's generation and had no connection to BG whatsoever. I doubt half the students have even seen the movie. Trying to get Falcons to "quack?" Ugh. I'm sure the players had fun filming the re-creation scenes. If that was this week, I'd say that could have helped the quality of play. Chances are, it was at the beginning of the year though.TalonsUpPuckDown wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 6:55 am The Laker fans in attendance had to be like “WTF is going on?” Honestly, so was I. If they want to do a "pop culture hockey" night with wide participation, they should try to capitalize on the upcoming new season of Letterkenny. Heck, I can still remember when the movie Waterboy was released, and the student section reaction without any University prompting.

Trying promotions is good. Asking them to be done well by this athletic department is almost an impossible task.

Re: 2021-2022 Season
When I was a student even last year I would shout FLYING V at an opponent taking too much time with the puck behind his own net. Then at least part of the student section would start quacking until the puck got to the blue line. I was 25 and everyone around me was an undergrad.pdt1081 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 20, 2021 8:51 amThe movie night promotions are always gimmicky. If the promo was as cringe inducing as it's been made out to be, it's not because the references flew over everyone's head.
