Alex Foster..Turns out my information was correct..
Stay tuned..
Alex Foster To Signs Contract With Toronto
Foster departs BGSU with 82 career points in 72 games.
March 7, 2006
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Sophomore Alex Foster is set to sign a contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, and will forego his final two years of college eligibility at Bowling Green State University. Foster, who led the team with 51 points, was the first Falcon to score 50-plus in a season since Dan Price record 53 in the 1998-99 season.
"When I came to BG the situation I was put in allowed me to develop me into the player I am now," said Foster. "The coaching staff allowed me to play in all situations, five-on-five, penalty kill and power play. Bowling Green, the city and coaches were awesome. I would not have changed a thing my last two years."
This season Foster was one of only five players in the country to score 50-plus points heading into last weekends playoff series with Nebraska-Omaha and was tied for the nation's lead with 40 assists. He scored at least one point in 30 of 38 games this season and had 15 multiple point contests. He was named the UConn Classic Tournament MVP after recording a tournament-high four points (2g, 2a) in wins over UMass and UConn. He was also named CCHA Offensive Player of the Month in November after scoring 18 points (4g, 14a) in just eight games.
"Alex has been a tremendous player for us the last two years," said BGSU head coach Scott Paluch. "He is a major loss to our program, but it is great to see Alex continue his dream. We wish him nothing but the best."
In two seasons the forward posted 82 points (19g, 63a) in just 72 games. He scored at least one point in 48 of 72 contests and had 25 multiple point games in his career.

Dude, this isn't football or basketball. If that is the mindset you have in looking at this, well, you're just flat out wrong. You'd be hard pressed to find a hockey fan that would tell you that Alex made the wrong decision. Hell, he could very well be playing for the TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS (go Sens!) THIS YEAR. Give me a break.OrangeFalcon02 wrote:What a great opportunity....$$$$$$$$
If MOTO goes pro this off season, then you can come back and begin to make an argument that one of our players made a poor decision.

Even the coaches said that Foster would have been stupid not to take the opportunity. As an undrafted free agent, he may never have gotten an offer like that again.
Matsu has already stated that he'll be back next year. His senior year is still a ? though.
Dobek is graduating and has an internship lined up. Again, an opportunity he didn't want to give up.

Ah, so that's the reason. I can't really say I blame him either. It is very hard to get a job nowadays without any experience. Having an internship is one of the best ways to gain experience. Good luck to him.BGFan wrote: Dobek is graduating and has an internship lined up. Again, an opportunity he didn't want to give up.

BleedingOrange, what are you smoking? Is there any other way of making my comment understandable ? Let me try again…
What a great opportunity = This is an opportunity of a lifetime.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ = He is going to make good money playing hockey.
What are you talking about? I thought my comment was pretty clear, be it only a few words. I support his decision. Can it be read any other way?

Well, please excuse me if I mistook your statement for extreme sarcasm. There is much more that went into Alex's decision than simply $$$$, and I firmly believe that he had the full support of both his piers and his coaches. For a kid that was undrafted to get this kind opportunity, it is certainly a notable occasion.OrangeFalcon02 wrote:Re: You said it...

I do appologize if I misunderstood you. I really think that people have a very misconstroued conception of what college hockey is. For better or for worse, for players of the caliber of Alex, it seems to me that the NCAA is a developmental league. There are many players who take longer to develop to their fullest potential, but for those few that, individually, develop faster than others, I do not fault them for a second for leaving. IN reality, a guy like MOTO has not yet fully developed, but after another year of playing at BG, I would think that he would be pro-ready. The kid has a stunning ammount of natural ability, and given the (unfortunate) place of college hockey prestige-wise, I would not fault him for a second if he decided next year to move up to the pro ranks.
I guess that is why I say that this isn't basketball or football. There is much more prestige associated with those sports at the collegiate level, and thus, there is more motivation for players to put off their paychecks for a year or two to play for their alma maters. As we all know, this doesn't necessarily happen all the time, but I see a distinct difference between collegiate hockey players going pro early and their football and basketball playing peers. Alex's decision, I believe, had less to do with Bowling Green than it did the tertiary nature of hockey development.

People have commented about Senior leadership.
I do not remember , was the mantra of no Senior leadership started by the players, the fans, the coaches or the media?
1. Only one Captain, (I picked Sitko and Falk to be Captains).
2/5s of the Senior class ( not including goalies) were told that even though you have busted your bums for all these years; you are not worthy.
2. In the last 2 weeks in games we were down 2 goals with a minute to play, the guys scored goals with less than a minute to play in a game that they could have conceded. Who was on the ice for those goals: probably Falk, Morrison, and Pilk.
3. Ryan Barnett : Give this senior his due. He was out the whole Junior year with Mono. I saw him, he looked like .. He could have claimed illness, concentrated on the books for his senior year and gone through the motions. He must have busted his butt over the summer. He played every shift and hustled. He had a great senior season.
4. Sitko : Rock of Gibraltar in front of the net : apposing fwd, enter at your own risk.
Jon Horrell got a standing ovation at OSU.
Bobbie Frazee, the hardest job in the world; back up goalie ( personally at times, I would have rotated 3 goalies) My hat is off to you Bobbie, Thank You

What you're questioning is the coach's judgement as to who the captain(s) should be. If I recall correctly, Pooch stated that Morrison's selection was a nearly unanimous vote by the team. Assuming that's the case, what would you have done? We've had single captains in the past so it's not unprecedented. The team got what they voted for.Puckhead wrote:

The second part of your statement above says it all. There were a couple of big egos in the senior class that were pissed when they didn't at least have and 'A' on their jersey. That's NOT getting behind the captain and supporting the leadership. What it is is being a 'ME' player and nothing more. (I'm not saying that all of the seniors had this attitude, either.)
If we had the leadership that you claim we had then explain our finish this year even though it was obvious that we had more talent on this team than we did last year. The team pulled together for a few weeks this year and proved that they could play hockey with anyone. Unfortunately, the glue wasn't strong enough to keep it together. Put last year's leadership on this year's team and I think that we would have had a first round bye and would be playing at the Joe. That's just my opinion though.
