I FREAKIN' HATE the C-Ya cheer! I would LOVE it if we changed it to your suggestion. Saying "Bye-Bye JACKASS" is stupid! Why would we call him a jackass when he just gave us a POWER PLAY????? We should say, "HEY (player's name)! THANK YOU!!!" Or something like that!!

That's no fun! Besides, isn't that chant a huge part of the student section experience? I know that's where I learned it. If you want the chant to change, you have to change the students...which probably won't happen anytime soon.

They picked that chant up from the Weasels. Way back in the 80's we pretty much had our own chants instead of modifying some other schools. For a penalty we pointed at the offender and chanted "You!, You!, You!" until they closed the penalty box door. It wasn't just the students, either. It was everybody.

That went on up until sometime in the mid 90's. A lot of the old cheers seemed to go away when we switched benches.

That isn't nearly as much fun. Give me the current one anyday, even if it is a ripoff of another school's chant.

Obviously, you've never seen it done.
That's correct. I started school in 2002. To chant "You!" sounds like it's a witch hunt. It just seems...archaic. We might as well chant, "SHAME! SHAME!"

Whatever...if the students no longer have the creativeness needed to come up with their own chants that don't include vulgarities that's their problem. It's not what is said that is imposing, it's the volume. 3000-4000 fans chanting You! while a skater is going to the sin bin is, to say the least, imposing. Most of the crowd has no desire to chant the other because of the perceived vulgarity. What they used to throw out was even worse. The coach at the time had to ask them to tone it down because it was so bad.

Is there video of this anywhere? My curiosity is sparked.
And I agree that I'd rather we didn't copy our cheers. I like the enthusiasm of the student section that's in the Stroh, but a bunch of their cheers are just copies of other school's cheers. ("Is that not the scoreboard?", "I Believe!").
Not to say the "See Ya! Byebye! Jackass!" cheer isn't fun, because it is!
Also, I have to admit I did like the "If you're winning and you know it" cheer during the Toledo game.

And calling him a jackass isn't saying something similar as "shame on you?" My point isn't that we should go back to the "You" cheer, but to not shame him for giving US a penalty, which is a benefit and opportunity for us.
And yes, I agree, that we aren't going to change the student section any time soon. And I do LOVE that the student section is huge and LOUD. It's the way it's supposed to be!! It's the way it used to be!!! It makes the old rink a hard place to play in for the visiting team. We used to be the most difficult place for visiting teams to come to. It's becoming that again as was witnessed by last weekend's crowd, especially on Friday night with the win. The crowd factor was a huge factor that night for the team's effort in winning that game! I would love to get some decent, common cheers going on throughout the whole rink again!
