Coaching Search
Re: Coaching Search
This is just hearsay (not able to actually confirm it) but I was told that Dan Bylsma has been in touch and Wayne Wilson has been in town.

As a Wings fan, I'd love to see Byslma depart. The PP and PK were not good this year and he was supposed to fix them

Re: Coaching Search
More a product of the Wings terrible roster than anything else. The entire coaching staff misused players most of the season until they got "hurt" and they called up half the Griffins team. My guess is Bylsma will draw interest from the Kings with Blake and Emerson being out there. Question is whether or not he wants to head out that way.Flipper wrote:As a Wings fan, I'd love to see Byslma depart. The PP and PK were not good this year and he was supposed to fix them

Re: Coaching Search
The Wings had Larkin/AA/Mantha/Nyquist/Bertuzzi up front with Green, Kronwall, Hronek and Dekeyser on the blue line. Yeah..that defense corps could use some work as only Green was a quality PP piece, but they should have seen far better results than they did...especially at home.

Re: Coaching Search
The Blade's candidate list is awful. Wilson is coming off 2 losing seasons and two first round AHA tournament exists and has had 4 losing seasons in the past 6 years. We also need scoring and Wilson's grind it out, minimal offense approach will not help the program grow.mbenecke wrote:This is just hearsay (not able to actually confirm it) but I was told that Dan Bylsma has been in touch and Wayne Wilson has been in town.
We *really* need to move beyond the shallow BG-connections pool. Pooch and Buddy had extensive BG connection and lost while Bergeron had zero and turned it around.
Get Byslma or a proven winner/elite recruiter from another program.

Any confirmation/clarification on the statuses of Eigner and Schutte?

Re: Coaching Search
Bylsma is off to coach Team USA with Blashill. Not sure if that means he's out of the running but he'll be pretty busy the next couple weeks.

Re: Coaching Search
Probably has nothing to do with it, but I've heard from a few people that this search could last up to a month, with the amount of guys they're touching base with.jpfalcon09 wrote:Bylsma is off to coach Team USA with Blashill. Re: Coaching Search
World Championships don't start until next month, so if Bylsma wanted to be in play there'd be time to get things handled before that tournament began (not at all am I saying he's 100% in play either).jpfalcon09 wrote:Bylsma is off to coach Team USA with Blashill. I'd hope that's not their working timeline. Recruits are sitting at home wondering who they're going to be playing for. You can't leave them in the wind that long because that's when other coaches start calling. It's not like this opening blindsided them.mbenecke wrote:Probably has nothing to do with it, but I've heard from a few people that this search could last up to a month, with the amount of guys they're touching base with.
For whatever it's worth there's been very little "noise" about the search. There's been rumors, of course, but nothing concrete/confirmed to report.

Re: Coaching Search
It's the way Moose operates. Just look at the football hiring process. It's the preferred way to do it, especially when you're talking to coaches and assistant coaches of other teams that don't necessarily want others to know they are looking for a different job. Miami had tunnel vision on Bergeron, and everybody knew it. His case it was good to leverage a better offer from BG. I'm not sure the 2 contracts were as far off as everybody assumes. He was always leaving, but is professional enough to play along with the show. He also left Moose with the knowledge that there is enough money to lure in a great coach.BGDrew wrote: For whatever it's worth there's been very little "noise" about the search. The initial head shot they used in their staff directory was his BG headshot. With a great orange tie!Falcon Fanatic wrote:Seriously, Miami? This is the best pic of Berge you could find???? Re: Coaching Search
I'll be surprised if Moose doesn't have this wrapped up within another week. They didn't bother to name anyone as interim coach (probably because the two key guys are either going to Miami and/or in the running for the job). So there's obviously no one to keep in contact with recruits. I can't see things dragging out so long they lose all the momentum created by the NCAA appearance.BGDrew wrote:World Championships don't start until next month, so if Bylsma wanted to be in play there'd be time to get things handled before that tournament began (not at all am I saying he's 100% in play either).jpfalcon09 wrote:Bylsma is off to coach Team USA with Blashill. The Frozen Four is this week. It's entirely possible a participating assistant coach is a candidate.Falconwriter wrote:

Re: Coaching Search
According to a tweet from BGSUhockey.com yesterday, Moosebrugger sees a decision on a new coach taking a month to a month and a half. I wish that I could trust Moosebrugger to make a good choice, but I don't. I hope that someone is keeping in communication with the current players and recruits. We definitely want to keep the upward momentum going.Falconwriter wrote:I'll be surprised if Moose doesn't have this wrapped up within another week. Re: Coaching Search
I understand being wary of the timeline, as I think most fans are, but I'm actually a bit surprised that you don't trust Moosbrugger to make a good hire. I would love to hear more on why you think that way, because I feel quite the opposite, respectfully.Hockey John wrote:

During his nearly 3-year tenure here:
-hired Matt Fannon for women's soccer, and they immediately turned around and won the MAC in 2 years
-hired Robyn Fralick, and while it hasn't happened yet (only one season under her belt), I think she is going to turn the program around
-made the bold but necessary move to let Jinks go, despite the financial strain, because he knew it was what the program needed
-hired Scot Loeffler, who I have heard/seen nothing but good things about (probably won't see real results this year, but the potential in the future is high, for sure)
To me, he has done nothing but inspire confidence in his ability to conduct an effective search and make a great hire. This feels like a situation where we really have an abundance of options, and I trust that he will take his time and make a strong decision that will be in the best interest of the fans and the program, alike.
I'm a firm supporter of Bob Moosbrugger as our athletic director.
